Tangled: Movie Review

Tangled, Disney's take on the folk tale classic Rapunzel, hearkens back to the hayday of Disney pictures. A princess, in dire straights. A handsome lead. And an evil witch/stepmother/etc.

There is nothing new here. This movie could have been written 50 years ago by Walt Disney himself.

But that doesn't mean that it doesn't do a fantastic job at what it is trying to do. This is the classic Disney fare for the young princesses in your family. It has been a long time since Disney has had a successful movie geared specifically for girls (Up, Toy Story series, and Wall-E are fantastic movies, but not exactly the stories little girls dream about). And the singing, dancing, and love story are enough that every little girl will want to be Rapunzel for Christmas.

My 30something wife wants to go see this- I am hoping there is a good zombie movie that starts at the same time for me.

According to Disney/Pixar, this will be the last princess movie for quite a while.

Film’s website (trailer and lots of video clips):

There were many young ones at today’s theater and they weren’t (all) seeing Harry Potter. So the morning show had a respectable showing, I imagine.

Wasn't The Princess and The Frog a Disney movie?

Just as well. They’ve turned the princess concept on its ear, replacing one tired old cliche with something that has quickly become a tired cliche.

The ads make it look like Shrek meets birth-control ads.

This movie is classic Disney...like the review said.

My 12 year old daughter and I went to see it last night and were pleasantly suprised by the story and production values.

I would give it a 9 out of 10.....for the genre, and I would watch it again.

Movieguid.org recommended this movie. Gave it 4stars +1. Summary:

TANGLED is Disney’s comical animated version of the Rapunzel fairy tale, wherein a thief gives Rapunzel a chance to escape the old hag who stole her from her parents, the king and queen. Despite an unresolved moral conflict, comical action violence and some Romanticism, TANGLED is beautiful, funny, exciting, delightful, and touching – with a redemptive, sacramental quality that lifts the movie, and its magical themes, into a more sublime entertainment.

Stay home and fire up the last 4 episodes of Walking Dead. It's a friggin masterpiece.

I love the Walking Dead. I am surprised too, it is something you would expect BBC to put out, not AMC.

I swore after "Rubicon" and "Breaking Bad" I would not get involved in another AMC series. Then I made the mistake of watching the first ep of "Walking Dead". Has to be the best show on TV.
