TSA Turns Off Scanners, does "normal" pat downs
Gizmodo ^ | 11/24/2010 | various

Yeah, there are no problems today because backscatter machines are TURNED OFF at many airports and they are doing normal security procedures. Interesting that they'd rather risk people's safety than endure a PR disaster. By not giving people the chance to opt-out, they effectively take control of the story. Of course, by their logic, if there was such a heightened risk, then these machines should be used all the time (especially on a day when so many people are going to be flying). A move like this demonstrates that safety isn't their foremost concern; they just don't want to lose a big gov't contract. And of course, if there was some sort of attack today because the backscatters were turned off, then it's "See? We TOLD you so."

Yep, I suspected as much, with all the breathless stories out about “OpT Out Day” fizzling-—TSA preempted it!

Yup, everything I’ve heard on the news today, local and national, is that the sheeple are nicely complying with this new totalitarian regime.

Who wrote this?

The article says the TSA has a big government contract. The TSA is the government not a private contractor.

That is the problem. All these government agencies must be abolished and let the private sector alone. Each private airline would do their own security and people would choose what kind of security they want. The main difference between socialism and capitalism is private property.

Once unionized they will be part of King Obama’s private army and will never be removed from airports.

Well, not until a new resident moves into the Oval Office. Like Sarah?

The article did say the machines were sidelined in some airports and that’s based on the messages from various travelers. Some of the messages are at the beginning of the article. It looks like it’s anecdotal evidence.

As soon as I read that there had been few problems, I knew that they had backed down and were not doing the full scan and grope procedure.

Let’s keep them on the run.

The one time the American people actually attempt some REAL civil disobedience, the move to shut it down. Now they can continue to keep us on “ignore.” They know the majority are generally unwilling to engage in concerted action.

Nobama’s socialist tyrannical ideology is just smart enough to know they better stop this, but not smart enough to know better than initiate or not smart enough to see the handwriting on the wall and terminate early-on. Instead they pretend that they are sticking to their guns all the while quietly shutting the thing down.

How cowardly! How anti-American! How LIBERAL Progressive!

I think the pat downs were to cover the fact the radiation machines do NOT WORK.

I am also interested in reading the number of people flying over today through Monday, as opposed to how many flew in that same time period in 2009 and 2008. I’ve decided not to fly for as long as these procedures are in place, and judging by multiple posts here and other conservative sites (AND on DU! ), it appears that many preferred to not fly at all, as opposed to “opting out” at the airport.

This just goes to show that they knew this wasn’t justified and they couldn’t sustain that claim.

Either they are putting the nation at risk today or they aren’t. If they were profiling like they should have been all along, there would be almost no risk today whatsoever.

That’s how Israel does it.

I suspect they didn’t want to have to deal with the inevitable long lines and delays today. A full court press couldn’t have wound up not making people miss their flights and causing major disruptions. THAT, they couldn’t and wouldn’t deal with.

A—holes!

None of it makes sense. In airports that have the scanners you do the scan or get patted down. In airports that don’t yet have the scanners you go through the regular metal detector. It is so obvious that all this is about is selling scanners to the taxpayers. And the only congressman I’ve heard REALLY yelling is Ron Paul.

For added humor...I’m googling keywords “TSA” and “Backscatter off”...

Some of the tweets are pretty funny...and some reveal just how stupid peolpe can be. ;(

“Notice: The TSA are now about to join a union. Unions are communists strongholds and are holding America hostage. Once unionized they will be part of King Obama’s private army and will never be removed from airports. “

They will move to the streets, funded by stimulus money (as these machines were) and God-knows-who.

And by then, legal precedent will have been set. Yet we have Freepers cheering on these “security measures.” Astounding.

The takeover of America is underway.

The takeover of America is underway.

And Fox News is currently helping by having a segment showing how foolish the protesters were.

We must have scared the Obama Marxists more than we realize.

"I have looked at the enemy straight in the eyes - and he blinked."

Actually, I think they only want to avoid the PR disaster that this was turning into, and on a major holiday no less.

The idiot known as "Big Sis" is only withdrawing the droids for a short recess.

And now I see the scanners are popping up at court houses, and she has already mentioned other modes of "mass transit."

I think Rush was right today.....'but just mere months ago The Incompetent One said an open border with Mexico was fine business. Now? Now we have to grope old ladies and 4 yr olds and everybody in between. Does not make sense, unless this is nothing but payback on the citizens. Punishment.'

Maybe its time to make a couple of modern day sequels to the movie "Airport".
