TSA Pat-Down Leaves Bladder Cancer Patient Humiliated, Crying & Soaked in Urine

When I went to the airport today, I was put in the uncomfortable position of a so-called “naked” full-body scan. Today’s experience was very different from the last flight I made, nearly two weeks ago; at that time I only had to go through a magnetometer. Today there was no option — it was either the full-body scan, a humiliating pat-down or no flight. All passengers flying out of Washington, DC were subjected to the new procedures. So, like confused cattle, our uneasy line of air travelers was herded through the machine.

But my experience today was nothing compared to that of Thomas D. “Tom” Sawyer, a 61-year-old retired special education teacher from Lansing, Michigan. Sawyer was reportedly on his way to a wedding in Orlando when his medical condition caught the special attention of security.

As a survivor of bladder cancer, Sawyer wears his pants two sizes to large to accommodate medical equipment he must now wear. “I have to wear special clothes and in order to mount the [urostomy] bag I have to seal a wafer to my stomach and then attach the bag. If the seal is broken, urine can leak all over my body and clothes,” he recounted to MSNBC.

On Nov. 7, Sawyer said he went through the security checkpoint at Detroit Metropolitan Airport. “Evidently the scanner picked up on my urostomy bag, because I was chosen for a pat-down procedure,” he said. Because of his medical condition, Sawyer says he asked to be screened in private. “One officer looked at another, rolled his eyes and said that they really didn’t have any place to take me,” said Sawyer. “After I said again that I’d like privacy, they took me to an office.”

As a strong Conservative, I’m trying hard to understand the objections to the pat downs. With all the dry runs and bombs being found on passengers, why not do a through search? It seems to me that those who object to the pat downs just should not fly- for the safety of all. We can’t be too careful. Am I missing something here?

What you are missing is that your are willing to sacrifice your 4th amendment rights for the illusion of safety. The TSA is giving you a choice of being irradiated or molested.

This is all street theater to distract you from the fact that our northern and southern borders are wide open, immigration lack the tools to perform timely accurate security checks, and the executive branch has for years been mandating bringing in more jihadis. The bonus is turning up the temp on the frog in the pot while completely humiliating him.

The great objection is the 4th Amendment's stricture against unreasonable search. These searches are being performed in such a manner as to make this nothing but theater. It isn't going to make you any safer, because a few trips through a security checkpoint will show all the weaknesses of this approach. One that jumps right out is the lines this creates. One jihadi with clothes by DuPont can really put a twist on this mess. They could kill more people at the checkpoint than they would on the plane. In the end, you aren't going to stop the terrorist bent on death. He will find a way. So the idea is to get him before he gets anywhere. Hit him early, and hit him hard.

To address the rest of your post, the TSA hasn't found any bombs, and have even missed a large portion of the test bombs sent through by the government to test its own security. It is ineffectual at best, and a real hazard to the normal air traveler because of it.

I won't go through that kabuki dance, therefore I don't fly. And there are ever more coming around to that way of thinking, so air travel will become prohibitively expensive as fewer flyers will pick up more of the cost of flying them. And they still won't be safe from the jihadi. And the safest state is a police state. So exactly how careful do you want to be?

Read the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the many writings of those who founded this nation. Then, and only then, will you understand the objection.

You have citizens standing right next to you who will intervene with you. There need be no violence. We have the numbers against them. These examples are so ridiculous, and there is so little being done by the obummer admin to address the grievances, the question really must be asked - what would the propagandists be doing to Bush, if this were happening under his admin’s direction?

We know the answer - they would have EXCORIATED Bush, and blasted him OUT OF THE WATER. There is “Plan A”. Ask every person you know that is considering or has planned air travel over the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday to CANCEL or otherwise drop their plans for air travel. Basically bring the airline industry to its knees over what is the most lucrative time of the year for them. Then sit back and watch this Administration get burnt to a crisp by the ensuing flames. I know this method will financially damage the air transportation industry, but they survived 911, so they would survive this “boycott” too.

“Plan B” is much more painful: March on Washington with something more powerful than slogan-painted signs. Let the fascist goons dare to open fire on 2 million Americans... That act would suffice to send most of this nation sailing over the edge into civil war against these tyrannical bastards.
