It must be stopped cold. We must demand no lame duck laws except one, the Bush tax cut extension. Just one!
No Repub lead congress will put forth that draft bill, so no lame duck laws at all. If they do, a BIG Tea Party must be had on the Mall with pitch forks and torches.

Didn’t Jughead tell us that he wanted a standing homeland army, at least as well funded and organized as our military?
How else is he supposed to realize his dream? You can’t depend on elections, there is a chance that the counts will actually reflect the people’s will.

What, would they expect some 40 yr. old guy with a steady career and a family to drop his job and join the Obama red-guard?
It can't pass. I don't believe it can pass.

Conscription ages were 18 to 26 during the last years of the active Draft during the closing days of the Vietnam era—with 19 year olds inducted first.
When did it extend to 45?

It’s one thing to require only males to register but quite another thing to draft only males into a non-military service in peacetime. Both are unconstitutional IMHO but the latter would surely be challenged and cause a real mess.

It sure is interesting that the so-called antiwar Democrats are the only ones who run their mouths about re-instituting the draft.
Do any of their glassy-eyed, mindless voters notice? Never mind, forget I even asked such a stupid question.

Rangel has done this before. I question why Obama would do this, as he would lose his base over it.

If this passed, I would be more than willing to take up arms and fight. I would also prefer to get my government-issued weapons and MREs up front as a “down payment,” so that I could be a more effective fighting machine.
I would also hope they would hand this stuff out on a Friday, to give me two days to prepare. I promise to be there Monday morning!

Don’t worry this is the same bill that Charlie Rangle keeps introducing over and over again. There are no co-sponsors and no support from anyone. It is stuck in commitee till it dies.

The left loves the draft. It was the main lefty recruitment tool in the 60’s, you could get a mob of kids all wee-weed up and in the street burning things.
Kucinich and others have mentioned the draft as a way to get yoot involved.

This is (Good Time) Charlie Rangle's baby, he has been pushing it for years but can't even get any democrats to cosponsor, the bill has never even gotten out of committee. I don't see any evidence of that changing anytime in the near future. Even Obama, who has stated he supports some sort of National Service hasn't endorsed it. It's worth watching, but I wouldn't lose any sleep over this one.
For those with inquiring minds, the penalty, according to the bill, for not performing your "national service" would be bans from receiving certain government aid such as extended unemployment benefits and student grants and you would be unable to apply for most federal jobs. Yawn, who cares. Even if it became law I would tell my kids to ignore it, as I would imagine most conservatives would.
