Cincinnati Chili

"Outside of the state of Texas, Cincinnati, Ohio, is the most chili-crazed city in the United States. Cincinnati prides itself on being a true chili capital, with more than 180 chili parlors. Cincinnati-style chili is quite different from its more familiar Texas cousin, and it has developed a cult-like popularity.
What makes it different is the way the meat is cooked. The chili has a thinner consistency and is prepared with an unusual blend of spices that includes cinnamon, chocolate or cocoa, allspice, and Worcestershire. this is truly the unofficial grub of Cincinnati.
The people of Cincinnati enjoy their chili spooned over freshly made pasta and topped with a combination of chopped onions, shredded Cheddar cheese, refried beans or kidney beans, and crushed oyster crackers. If you choose "the works," you are eating what they call Five-Way Chili. Make sure to pile on the toppings - that's what sets it apart from any other chili dish."

I make a chili that has lots of ground beef, green bell peppers, onions, kidney beans and chili powder. Everyone seems to like it, but I once entered a chili competition at work and the consensus seemed to be that, while good, it was very unusual.

There was a restaurant here that served chili Cincinnati style. It closed up for lack of interest.
Me? I don’t care how anyone eats their chili. I do prefer a much thicker sauce with diced fresh or canned tomatoes, lots of peppers and onions. But to each his own.
Oddly, the chocolate/cocoa does work. I don’t use it myself, but I’ve had it. It’s good.

That’s not chili, that’s spaghetti sauce........where are the hot peppers......

Exactly how I make mine. Then I serve it up with a little grated cheddar, sour cream and tortilla chips.

Had some just last week. Great stuff. My wife is from Ohio, and she makes it fresh from her own recipe (better than Skyline, IMHO).

Been there done that. Lived there for 2 years. Never understood the draw for the chili. In my opinion it is not as good as southern chili. One day I brought homemade spaghetti to work, one of the guys said hey that smells and looks like chili. The only chili I liked when I lived there was Dixie Chili
Chili was first invented by the Spanish Canary Islanders,
in the city of San Antonio, Texas, which they founded.
The recipe consisted of dried beef, suet, dried chili peppers, and salt.
... PASTA?!?

I like Skyline better, with Gold Star a close second. Unfortunately I live in Illinois now and the only place I can find Skyline Chili is the cans sold in the local Kroger stores.
