I only posted this opinion piece because I could not really find other articles about this.

School and socialist educators, taking over for the parents. Groom ‘em young and never allow parental input. My God, they're making prekindergarten mandatory!

I like the idea. My neighborhood would be a lot quieter.

19th Century Sweatshops only worked children 12 hours/day, 6 days/week....

We’ve come a long way, baby....

We’re homeschoolers.

Our school is open, not only during “normal” school hours to satisfy the state’s requirements, but whenever we encounter a good learning opportunity.

"Whether it's a single parent working one, two, three jobs or two parents working, that's why we have to keep our schools open longer."

IOW, the schools are primarily warehouses for children.

“America is under the leadership of not just left-wingers, but communists. You should no longer be afraid to use that word.”

Well, duhhhh..
I have been calling the regime “MARXIST” before it took office. So has Michael Savage.
I had one FReeper jump on me for using the term USSA, but that is what it has become, and it will get even worse.
Anyone that supports this regime should be referred to as neo-Marxist.

The writer would get more depth if he’d realized (or mentioned) that Betty Friedan was a Communist.

Abolish the socialist indoctrination centers.

Let the parents keep the tax money and be responsible for their children’s education.

I actually read another article quoting him as joking that the schools need to be kept open “13 months” a year—yep, the same thing that ran Greece into bankruptcy: bureaucrats getting paid for 14 months per year!!! Remember, it’s all about the teachers’ unions, folks, nothing more!

Communist goals number 17, 40 and 41 are applicable.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

Why waste all that money hauling students home to sleep? Just give the parents visitation rights on holidays.

Every few years some silly politician brings up this subject again. And every time, it dies. I hardly think more time in school is going to help our kids. Their education is not a matter of quantity...it is a matter of quality. And the quality will not improve just because the kids are there longer.

However, that said, I know several teachers who only became teachers because of the nice hours they have (I know, they work hard during the school year, they say)and have their summers off. They are not teaching because they love to teach. Besides, the Teachers' Union will never allow this. Bringing this up again is just a lot of noise for no reason other than some new nut wants attention and thinks she can change the system.

Interpretation:

Keep kids away from their parents as much as possible so Big Brother can brainwash them and turn them against their parents and the traditional values they teach.

And to think: It all began with one woman's deep psychological torment. Betty Friedan ushered in this new world of ours with her book, The Feminine Mystique -- in which she urged women to leave their homes in search of greener pastures. For mothers, she said, the home is a "comfortable concentration camp."

About the same time Betty Friedan wrote The Feminine Mystique (New York: Norton, 1963), Helen Andelin was promoting an alternative view in Fascinating Womanhood (Santa Barbara, Calif.: Pacific Press, 1963) in which she argued that women will enjoy happier marriages if they embrace their traditional roles as wives and mothers.

Betty Friedan easily won the battle of the books. Her opus was published by a big New York firm and soon got the attention of America's cultural elite, while Helen Andelin's was put out by a mom-and pop press in a somnolent Southern California coastal town. However, Fascinating Womanhood has maintained a grassroots following and is still in print. For more information on the "Fascinating Womanhood" movement or Helen Andelin, surf over here.
