Earlier today, Mayor Bloomberg responded to my comments about the planned mosque at Ground Zero by suggesting that a decision not to allow the building of a mosque at that sacred place would somehow violate American principles of tolerance and openness.
No one is disputing that America stands for and should stand for religious tolerance. It is a foundation of our republic. This is not an issue of religious tolerance but of common moral sense. To build a mosque at Ground Zero is a stab in the heart of the families of the innocent victims of those horrific attacks. Just days after 9/11, the spiritual leader of the organization that wants to build the mosque, Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, suggested that blame be placed on the innocents when he stated that the United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened and that in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA. Rauf refuses to recognize that Hamas is a terrorist organization dedicated to the destruction of our ally, Israel, and refuses to provide information about the sources of funding for the $100 million mosque. Rauf also plays a key role in a group behind the flotilla designed to provoke Israel in its justifiable blockade of Gaza. These are just a few of the points Americans are realizing as New York considers the proposed mosque just a stones throw away from 9/11s sacred ground.
I agree with the sister of one of the 9/11 victims (and a New York resident) who said: This is a place which is 600 feet from where almost 3,000 people were torn to pieces by Islamic extremists. I think that it is incredibly insensitive and audacious really for them to build a mosque, not only on that site, but to do it specifically so that they could be in proximity to where that atrocity happened.
Many Americans, myself included, feel it would be an intolerable and tragic mistake to allow such a project sponsored by such an individual to go forward on such hallowed ground. This is nothing close to religious intolerance, its just common decency.

“Many Americans, myself included, feel it would be an intolerable and tragic mistake to allow such a project sponsored by such an individual to go forward on such hallowed ground.”
MISTAKE!? I don’t believe for a minute that it’s simply a mistake. No proof on my side to back me up, but the question of WHY would any decent American, even though a low-life politician be in favor of, and vote to allow such a mosque be built at Ground Zero unless it’s a personally acceptable ideological perspective, or they had some persoal gain say monetarily to do so.
I think it’s NOT a mistake more than another Leftist/Islamist coordinated attack on American, Western culture, and another clue as to how deeply the Left is embedded in American politics.
Another mistake that is being made here is that Americans will actually allow this.
Some Americans may have been born without guts, but most still have the intestinal fortitude and moral courage to say “absolutely not.”
Yes!
Yes - and a terrorist recruitment center. And a transfer station for espionage. And, perhaps worst of all: a symbol of victory for the savages who destroyed the World Trade Center.
The proposed mosque is intended not as a symbol of peaceful coexistence, but rather as a taunt.
We as Americans need not tolerate such a purposeful insult. We would be foolish to countenance the erection on sacred ground of a structure whose walls will echo with calls for further acts of violence against us. If it is built - it will not stand.
Islam is not a religion; it is a socio-political system masquerading as a religion.
By my estimation Mrs. JimRed and I stand about a 25% chance of losing one of our sons in the next Islamic bio/chem/nuke attack. Our older son is a union carpenter and commutes to Manhattan; our younger son is an architect living and working in DC.
A lib acquaintance of mine was ranting about that mistake in her "tweet", that it proves she is mentally inferior, and that she claimed to be like Shakespeare because he made up words too. They have no sense of (self deprecating) humor.
I hope you took the time to refudiate him/her.

SOME might say that letting them build near the sight is not enough. SOME might say that because of the attack, the world trade center cite is now dar al-islam, and belongs to them so that they may build the biggest mosque this side of the black rock for one big eternal ak-47 monkey dance. That’s what SOME might say.
Oh, come’on. Not that I’m advocating any sort of violence, but if it were to happen, the capitol would be by far the best place for it. Or san fransicko.
Spat on like traitor Jane Fonda got spat on that time at that book sighing.
I believe in granting Islam the tolerance and respect it grants the rest of the world....
Boycott New York. If the left can do it to Arizona, we can do it to New York.
LOL!
Well said!

Definitely!
Islam is terrorism; always has been.
When terror masquerades as “faith” it must not be tolerated.
If every newsreader signed off with that statement after being forced to announce the latest Islamic barbarism perpetrated daily on all of us, the world would already be a different, better place.
He is irrefudiable!
But we agreed to keep enjoying the Irish music...Tuesday night session.
