I am a Broken Man

A few days ago, my wife suddenly, without forewarning that I ever detected, told me she is leaving me. The details are not important, only that I recognize it was mostly my fault.

Our grown daughter is leaving home about the same time. Within three weeks, I will be alone, with only my Golden Retriever as a companion. I'm calling on God, and he is answering, but in this physical world, it's only my Golden.

Heartbroken, deeply wounded, ashamed. That's me.

I'm hoping to receive words of advice and counsel. I'm a born again, spirit filled Christian, so I'll respond more readily to Christian-based advice and counsel, but I'm ready to accept whatever you have for me. I'm needy.

I know from experience that a crisis can either drive us toward God or away from God. And the choice is ours to make. It sounds like you have chosen the former path.

Be sure to never let your daughter hear negative things from you about her mother.

Everyone is loveable and hateable. When you marry someone you CHOOSE to be their life companion, mate, friend and generally be their ally. When you act badly you are just doing what people do from time to time.

It’s terrible out there. You better hope that I keep you in here for a while. You know who’s out there? Worse. Worse is out there. Yeah. Worse follows everybody. You should never challenge Worse. Don’t ever say “things couldn’t get worse!”

Worse is rough. He followed me over to the baccarat table. Sat down with me. And I said “oh man, things can’t get worse.” And he said... “WORSE!”

Don’t challenge him. Don’t make Worse angry. And the weight of your chips will not chase worse away. The only thing that’ll chase him away is to cut back. Play for a penny.

It goes on a while longer, but that’s the part I always think about when I’m in a position where I could make things worse. It seems like things get better slowly with consistent good decisions, and yet they can get worse in one fell swoop.
