The United Nations declared the week of May 10-16 to be the “Global Week of Action against Gun Violence.”
According to the UN, guns destroy personal freedom:
Governments have a responsibility to ensure public safety, and a vested interest in providing human security and an environment conducive to development to their citizens. However, the excessive accumulation and universal availability of small arms negatively impact on security, human rights and social and economic development in many parts of the world.
The UN seeks a “comprehensive, legally binding instrument establishing common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms.”....

Translated this means that if the peons have the power to defend themselves we can’t continue to exploit, jail, torture or kill whenever it suits us. The UN represents governments - not citizens - and will always advance the interests of government apparatchiks ahead of the people they “lead”.
They know that all of their other totalitarian fantasies (ie, the earthly utopia where all humans can “self actualize” under the benevolent leadership of the intelligentsia)
will be thwarted by a few resistors with the means to defend themselves.

So, the UN has all the guns and weapons and you are powerless.
The good news is that the UN is “looking out” for us.
Meanwhile, in Africa and the Middle East, well-armed militias are the rule rather than the exception. I suppose it’s easier to enforce a feel-good rule aiming at enslaving the productive than to go where the real action is.
