To whom it may concern. If your wife does not own a 12 ga, you may need to buy her one for her birthday.
I recently took a job that keeps me away from home most of the time. My wife had many nights of sleeplessness due to fear, agnst, and lack of self confidence when she is alone at night.
Long story short. I bought her a short barreled 12ga and it is loaded with low recoil buckshot.
She and I practiced with HER shotgun with light dove loads for several weeks.
The 12ga sleeps on my side of the bed when I'm not at home and she sleeps soundly now, she fears no living being. Here is a poem I really like:
******************************************
It's all a tale of living, of what a man can be. I'll pass it on from my life, so maybe you can see. There's very few things that can't get done With five hunnerd dollars and a pump shotgun.
It's been passed on to me, from father to the kid. Sometimes you have to stand tall, sometimes you best be hid.
But a man can always stand tall, he never has to run
With five hunnerd dollars and a pump shotgun.
There's times when life is fearful, there's times that aren't so good. When a man does what he has to, when he does just what he should.
But he can keep his house warm, his place there in the sun With five hunnerd dollars and a pump shotgun.
One night the prisoners broke out, a few had rushed the gate. And Daddy heard that they were coming, heading down the interstate.
But they didn't stop at our house, they continued on the run Cause Dad was on the front porch with a pump shotgun.
Sometimes my Dad worked overtime, sometimes from out of state
My Momma didn't worry when the old man got in late She knew where Daddy kept them, could grab them on the run She had five hunnerd dollars and a pump shotgun.
It didn't matter what the trouble, didn't matter what the cause, If a kid got sick or the roof blew off, it didn't give her pause.
If a wolf got in the chickens, just trying to have some fun Mom would greet him warmly with a pump shotgun.
And when I started my house, with a baby on the way Dad came by one evening, said what he had to say "Remember all your lessons, and do what must be done.
Here's five hunnerd dollars and a pump shotgun."
You never met my Grandma. Snakes feared to come on to her place, 'cause if she found 'em there, they never got the chance to leave. She was of pioneer stock. German pioneer stock.
That is freaking hilarious !! I have never heard of those type of rounds before. WOW !
I brought my 870 Tactical out to show her that when it comes to stopping someone in their tracks the shotgun has few equals.
25 to 30 yards I put more lead on target than she does.
>>The 12ga sleeps on my side of the bed when I’m not at home <<
So when she cocks the gun on nights you are home...? ;)
FWIW a 28 ga. is about .55 caliber.
This wife would stop a heart in a heartbeat if it meant staying alive...as well as offing a dirtbag.
I’m looking for a 20 ga, less recoil.
Well, teach her anyway. You might be surprised. Most people are “fight or flight” and if flight is not possible, they can be the fiercest fighters. People don’t realize how dangerous a doe can be. Lots of hunters have been killed by an angry deer. Ask her if she’d shoot someone to save your life, and you’ll have your real answer.
“they were all lost in a tragic fishing accident.”
Do you live on a house boat?
Boating accidents are the #1 cause of lost firearms these days. I’ve done a survey. However, my personal experience involved a freakish meteor. Now all I have left is a big blob with a front sight sticking out of it.
agreed, the 20ga is good, but you should try some of the new low recoil 12ga buckshot rounds available. You may be surprised at how soft they are.
having said that, the 20ga is a good home defense weapon and will do the job!
There are such things as urban areas where the local politcos do not believe that the peasantry should own handguns. A pump shotgun is an excellent alternative. While I have not had an opportunity to check out these low-recoil defense loads, I do like Winchester Light Trap Loads. Across the room, they are nasty but overpenetration is not a problem. One might want to consider pistol-caliber Lever carbines as are used in Cowboy Action Shooting but they can be pricey.
I have done some instructing and, by and large, I have found women to be easier to teach. Many of the male instructors I know agree with me.
And, lastly, never, ever, ever underestimate what the female of the species is capable of if you piss her off badly enough.
he way I see it, algore was wrong about global warming raising the sea level. The way I figure it, the sea level is rising because of all the guns that accidentally fell overboard...lol
Don't let those big brown eyes and silly panting tongues fool you. They know where you keep the guns and they probably have the combination of your Gun Safe written on the bottom of their paws. They saw Sarah Palin scribble on her palm, so they know what's what.
You think they're quietly napping on your bed, when they are actually plotting where they will bury your Glock.
Going to need some pics on that, Dave, before this thread can continue.
I thought so.)
Thanks
In 1940, My great grandmother took care of my grandma and my mother in a little house in a coal camp located in Jeffrey WV.
There was a home invader running around preying on the wives of coal miners who worked late at night. I assume he noticed my great grandma with the kids, so he lay in wait, and around 11 or so, started digging open the window in the back bedroom.
He made it in, the dog started barking, and she got the gun. It was one of those old style Colt 380 automatics. He was turned, with his front sticking out, trying his best to exit the residence through the window.
She opened up on him and put 4 bullets in his ass.
The neighbors heard it, and they came with guns. Said bad guy went and hid in the weeds until a constable came. The neighbors said the goblin kept saying “Dont let her shoot me anymore.”
The WV State Police finally showed up and took him into custody. They eventually tied him to the rape and murder of one woman and long story short, this guy was one of the last people to ride the lightning at the WV State Prison at Moundsville.
That’s my feelgood story for the night.
cool shotgun....fun for the entire family!!

“...they all lost their firearms...”
Makes sense to me...when they come ‘round to take registered guns you have a good explanation as to why you don’t have ‘em :)
Nor are some men.
