The message below is from Mayor Cory Booker of Newark.
James Rucker
Executive Director, ColorOfChange.org (group van jones made famous)
This March was the first month in 44 years without a single murder.1 It's an accomplishment for which we are incredibly proud, and one of the ways we got there was by being smart about guns.
Right now, there is a gap in our nations laws. It's called the Gun Show Loophole, and it enables criminals, the mentally ill, and other legally prohibited persons to purchase firearms without a background check. 30% of illegally trafficked guns are connected to gun shows.2
Even though many gun shows are organized in more rural states, the impact of illegal guns obtained through the Gun Show Loophole is overwhelmingly felt in Americas cities and minority communities. Im partnering with ColorOfChange to ask for your help in closing the Gun Show Loophole.
Please join me in telling Congress.... http://act.colorofchange.org/go/199?akid=1428.609529.HxyKZC&t=3
... more than 12,000 Americans are victims of gun murder every year.4 Minority communities often feel the brunt of this violence -- African-American men, for example, are 9 times more likely than white men to be murdered with guns.5
I'm a proud member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns -- a coalition of more than 500 mayors who believe in common-sense gun laws. We are doing what we can to reduce the number of illegal guns on the streets of our communities.
... closing the Gun Show Loophole should be a top priority for our representatives in Congress, and they need to hear your voice.
...help protect innocent people from gun violence:

The only significant thing to happen in NJ is a GOP governor who is standing up to the impractical idealists and the career leaches who take advantage of the idealists. So it is funny how a politician always takes credit for the positive and blames the other side regardless of the facts.
They're just undocumented firearms.
etting?
Thailand?
Attention all you Political MORONS... you can’t get illegal guns off the streets, just like you can’t stop teens from having SEX..
to make it easier on yourselves, just start a program to PUT GUNS in the hands of LAW ABIDING CITIZENS.
/duh
OH ... NJ mayor ... Nevermind .. common sense bounces off them like bullets off of Superman
I doubt that very very much
BANGLIST Bump
They could give me one.
I promise to keep it off the street.
Or at least in by bedtime.
Perhaps we could please the left if we passed a law that required gun stores to give out condoms with each purchase.

Madame or Mister Booker is being irresponsible and the Obama administration should examine whether whether his/her proposals would violate civil rights. States must act responsibly to protect 2nd Amendment rights or “open the door to irresponsibility by others.”
Booker’s written proposals could undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe.
I ain’t never ett no guns.....snorted some gunpowder once tho.
Fire in the hole!
Just doing the job the legal American guns don’t want to do.
We need to establish a path for illegal guns to come out of the shadows and become licensed. We would not allow them to jump to the head of the line. They would have to pay a fine and get in line behind all the other guns who have followed the procedures and waited for their turn to get licensed.
And before they're licensed they should present themselves clean, oiled, and demostrate the ability to work properly and reliably, and go "Bang!" in English.
When "Americas cities and minority communities" stop making excuses for and subsidizing barbarian behavior the problems will begin to go away.
