The #1 reason we homeschooled our kids was so that they would not follow the herd. It worked! They are individuals.
Parasites versus Producers...
I really hate generalizations like that. I am 27. I work about 70 hours a week, make just under 120k a year, scored significantly more than 2 standard deviations above the mean on every standardized test, and never had the benefit of a university education. I am socially liberal, protectionist, believe in a strong, capable, well-organized welfare system, and definitely do not consider myself ‘lazy’. I do value my life experience as a whole, and the well-being of human beings, more so than I do money. Money is just a pathetic tin god that we, unfortunately, have to cooperate with in order to sustain ourselves.
I’m sorry about the rant, but I am incredibly offended by some of these comments. Most people in my generation do not have a sense of self-entitlement, nor do they want to avoid working. However, my entire generation does feel collectively lied to by the promises of the world that we’re finally learning to put aside our differences and evolve a little bit. The world is still the same miserable, stinking, self-serving hell hole it always has been. That, a lot of us find pretty dis-spiriting.
vote democrat.. it’s easier than working.
Well, a generation who spent its formative years wearing styrfoam helmets on bikes, never allowed to fail, and do not understand the connection that work=success, not working= failure, is pretty much content to live off government handouts, in effect bought and paid for by the Dems since they hand out more. A generation ripe for becoming serfs....
I saw that first hand last night. My cousin and her husband, both highly paid yuppie types quit their jobs and traveled around the world for three months. Now they are living with her parents trying to find work.
A conversation at a party got around to politics. He told me that he “trusted his teachers” to be unbiased and he really didn’t didn’t care about anything. He’s been fully brainwashed.
Only a total collapse at this point will wake people up.
Gullible and need to be motivated would fit many
His “teachers” are probably the red-diaper-doper babies that used to tell us to “never trust anyone over 30.”
Before I even clicked on the thread me thought was “THEY ARE LAZY”!
You have MUSH for a heart if you are a Liberal at 20...MUSH.
I had the opposite experience and my Texan school district was superior, history was very important to us.
That would have been the 1972 election, in that election, the 18 to 29 year old vote went 52% Republican to 46% Democrat.
I went to schools on military bases until I was a Sophomore in High School, then went to NC schools. I don’t think I ever had a US history class.
Other than a public speaking class and a French class, I could easily have skipped high school and not missed a thing.
By my first presidential election I am glad to say I turned around and never had the ignominy of voting for Carter. I still remember someone canvassing for Carter just outside the election zone, and he approached me. Sometimes I wonder if he ever was ashamed of his gullibility. By the next election Carter was history- bad, bad history.
Im 58 years old, but government education back then was pretty poor.

I will be 66 in less than two months and I received an extensive education on history and the workings of governments in public school in South Carolina. Did things change that much in eight years? My wife is your age and very intelligent but she doesn’t seem to have had as much emphasis on history and government in her school days. She is vastly more knowledgeable about those things than most recent college graduates though. Schools now seem to be mainly day care centers.
I don’t know. I got a pretty good math and science education, but History was neglected. I attended schools in North Carolina, on military bases around the world, and in Virginia.
I’ve self-educated on history and other subjects. I found English classes VERY frustrating. Every year we would be introduced to the noun and later to the verb. And everybody in the class acted like this was a complete new subject to them.
In my opinion, you get about 3-4 years of education in the 12 years of public education.
Please take heart, there are thousands of homeschooled children who are VERY different from this group. My oldest is 18, very conservative, very opinionated, there are many more like him. I’m so thankful he is now a voter, and my 16 year old will be able to vote in 2012. Don’t rule out their generation just yet!
That's good to hear. They're the hope of this Sacred Republic. . BTW, Good Job!
Interesting assumption that a 24 yr old would have the experience to be your boss, when perhaps, you have served in a position for more years than he/she has. That tells me more about you than it does the 24 yr old.
I included in my comments the “exception to the rule” factor. I always allow for individual abilities and attributes.
You are missing the point here. It is the entitlement mentality, instant gratification, the “I deserve to be in that position” ideology. No one deserves to be anywhere that training, experience, personal traits and work ethic doesn’t come into place. And, I think most people would agree, that College and Technical training is the beginning of a long journey into the job market.
You have to “pay your dues” and learn your trade or skills. As an employer, I can tell you that it means a lot to me and if you aren’t willing to put forth the effort and gain the experience, you will never succeed.
Kissing ass??? LOL Whatever....
