Today I was selected ordered to participate in the American Community Survey (ACS). Never heard of it? Neither did I, until the edict arrived in the mail from the Community Organizer in Chief, via one of his many bootlicking lackeys, Robert M. Groves, director of the United States Department of Commerce.
I'll receive the survey in a few days, the edict tells me. The 28-page questoinaire [download a pdf here] is separate from the Census. My response to both (emphasis theirs) documents is required by U.S. Law.
That's an interesting statement, considering that I have been on this earth for nearly 43 years and this is the first time I've ever been selected ordered to complete even the Census.

That’s what I’m going to do. I hope Ms. Bachman will keep her promise.
Ditto!
I'm sure she will. It's all I will do and I'm not even a member of Congress.
me 2
Wouldn’t it be great if a high %’age of FReepers would do the same?
I received the ACS in the mail shortly after I moved into my new home in November. While reading it I came to the conclusion that the ACS should have been called THE HOME INVASION TARGETING INTERROGATION. I decided that I would continue with my OPSEC strategy...they don't have a need to know this information.
I lost the survey in the trash, and simply forgot about it. Until February 1st.
That's when someone started ringing my doorbell incessantly, then banging on the door for fifteen minutes. I peeked out a distant window and didn't recognize the car, so I ignored whoever it was. A census field rep left her card and a note taped to my front door.
She returned at least once, sometimes twice each day. I refused to answer my door. She left her little notes, about fourteen in all. The last one read something like “This is my job. Let's get this survey done today. NO EXCUSES!”
The same morning as her last note, I got a call from my ex-wife. We've been divorced for several years, but she had received a call from same census field rep wanting my phone number. When the ex told her we were divorced, and that I didn't live there anymore, the census rep said “Oh Really, well his new address is:” and the census rep proceeded to give the ex my new address. A big no-no.
Both my ex-wife and I called the Regional census office and reported this to her supervisor. I specifically made a follow-up call to Mr. Stevelman in Denver, and specifically told him to have his field rep stop calling my ex-wife, and cease her actions of divulging my personal information to anyone. I also told him to remove me from their computers, that I would only answer relating to Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, that I am the only person living here.
He agreed with my request, and I haven't had a visit from that nice lady since.
Now, I'd like to see the Department of Commerce tag that census rep with this:
Search 13 U.S.C. § 214 : US Code - Section 214: Wrongful disclosure of information
Whoever, being or having been an employee or staff member referred to in subchapter II of chapter 1 of this title, having taken and subscribed the oath of office, or having sworn to observe the limitations imposed by section 9 of this title, or whoever, being or having been a census liaison within the meaning of section 16 of this title, publishes or communicates any information, the disclosure of which is prohibited under the provisions of section 9 of this title, and which comes into his possession by reason of his being employed (or otherwise providing services) under the provisions of this title, shall be fined not more than $5,000 or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.
Wow. Thanks for sharing your story. With all of those trips and cards, it makes me wonder when these Census types will start Acorning the forms and filling them in by themselves.
Then they can ‘show’ how remarkably effective they’ve been on the job.
I’m one who WON’T give them more than they need to know. Count me in for this.
