Pat Robertson, You Don't Speak For Me!
Bald Eagle Press ^ | 1/16/2010 | Michael Di Domenico

Posted on 01/16/2010 12:12:15 PM PST by Michael Di Domenico

So often, evil is simple to identify. You know the historically bad people. But, then again, once in a while Pat Robertson opens his pie hole and reminds us that a different kind of evil sometimes creeps along like that dirty little wolf in minister’s clothing.

If you missed it, this “pillar of Christianity” decided that, while the people of Haiti were suffering from a devastating earthquake, many of whom, at that very moment were buried beneath the rubble clinging to life, he should let everyone know that the disaster was actually their fault, no pun intended. The convoluted logic he used to arrive at this fatuous conclusion has something to do with a deal Haiti made with the Devil, or so he claims, to release them from French rule two centuries ago, but his reasoning really isn’t the issue.

This unfeeling, uncaring, apostate may be a Christian, but he isn’t Christian. Those who have a heart, mind, soul and whatever else is missing from this guy must loudly excoriate him instead of ignoring him like a crazy uncle. Whenever he opens his mouth, we all get painted with the same brush.

I see where the poster links to what PR said, but I can’t vouch for his (or her?) past statements being atheistic in nature. That is my original point and I stand by it. There are posters here who will and have posted the same things posted on this thread — and were NOT doing so in sarcasm. My point — how is one supposed to mind-read and know that one poster is being earnest and another sarcastic?? Contrary to what some would say here, it is NOT always obvious (because I’ve read some pretty outlandish things here by those not being sarcastic) and has nothing to do with intelligence.

I understand the poster was being sarcastic, but that doesn't change the fact that he stumbled into the truth.

Pat Robertson has a history of making unfortunate comments that correlate current events and divine intervention. Sorry, but it is just not always the case. Misfortune comes to everyone at some point or another. Most people are just lucky that it isn't this severe.

"Pat said Haitl's problems stem from "occult activity" is pretty kooky stuff." A vodou pilgrim initiates a young girl in the sacred mud pool in Plaine du Nord, 300 kilometers north of Haiti's capital, Port-au-Prince, during the annual festival honoring the spirit Ogou.

Try reading the fourth chapter of Daniel (the one written by Nebuchadnezzar).

The sarcasm of the post was so thick that even Obama could have picked up on it. Get more sleep!

Actually, I’ve read far worse from posters on this site - whom I thought SURELY were being sarcastic - but weren’t. It’s not my issue, believe me - not a sleep issue, intelligence issue, lack of caffeine issue. It’s an issue of not knowing the mindset of the poster. If you can tell that, congratulations. You must be clairvoyant. If you want to argue about that, fine. But I suspect even you at this point must concede the obvious: should have been tagged as sarcasm. Otherwise, don’t cry “foul” when others don’t read your mind!

He talked about what happened in Haiti in 1802 (1804?). In the next breath, he solicited funds to assist people who are suffering.

You are more interested in demonizing Robertson than anything else.

The days of the Old Testament and the Wrath of God died on the cross at Calgary.

What, no sarcasm tag? Although I would love to tease you about Canadian salvation...

But to your point: do you really think the Bible supports your point? If so, please tell us how you can make such an assertion. Please quote from Scripture - not prepackaged theological pabalum.

Has this man ever earned a dollar in his life?

Yes. And a quick Google search can help you out there.

Word is he shops at Penneys and doesn't own an expensive watch.

Thanks, but I'll keep on believing my eyes. Word also is that he owns a private jet and lives in a mansion in Virginia. All paid for by wage-earners and low-income retirees trying to help others. And we're supposed to be impressed that he doles out a bit of this money which he didn't earn to the victims of a catastrophe in Haiti even as he blames them for the catastrophe?

You are probably confusing him with the Reverend Wright.

Not hard to do, considering their characters (or lack thereof).

He is not the only one to think the same thing.

In 2003, Voodoo was declared the official religion of Haiti.

By whom? The people? Was there a vote?

Nope, a defrocked priest turned marxist whom we installed as president of Haiti said so. Pretty much right before he was exiled.

But don't let the facts stop your little show.

I am not a regular watcher of Pat Robertson, but I know he does good things and sometimes says controversial thing. I thought he had said something controversial Haiti not that he was speaking for Michael Di Domenico?

BTW, everybody in Virginia lives in a mansion donchaknow. 11,000 sq. ft. is kind of common around here ~ and that's all anyone says is in that house. Many lawyers and businessmen who do part of their trade in their homes (meet clients, entertain, etc.) buy or build larger residences to handle the traffic.

You can imagine Northern Virginia with about 150,000 lawyers, each of whom is sucking the life's blood out of somebody somewhere, has a lot of these joints.

Roanoke VA, off in the boonies somewhere in the mountains, has fewer lawyers, but they've got preachers and writers, and they do the same thing (if they can), particularly building the extra space to handle their clients/parishners, etc.)

The foundational article for most of the concern with Pat Robertson's house was written by a guy who says a Robertson bodyguard pulled a gun on him. He compared Robertson's house with some inner-city rehab operations. Odds are good that with the government involved in the rehab, they probably spent more money than did Pat.

Pat's father was also a US Senator, so Pat didn't exactly come into this world PENNILESS. Interesting to know how much of his own money is in that house.

The writer of that piece estimated that Robertson's house cost about $1.2 million in 1992 money. That'd get you 1 acre and 3500 sq ft in Fairfax county in a development back then, so it's not all that much really. Will note that Pat supposedly got 25 acres with it over in Roanoke, but land is cheap out there ~ doesn't even mean he spent much on the land.

After the Obama Depression's real estate crash home prices all over Virginia are distorted. I daresay Robertson is not getting $1.2 mil for that house today.

I agree. I didn’t say it was fair. But they never repealed it.
