its Jan. 14, almost halfway through the month that usually serves as bookends to presidential years. Usually around this time, members of Congress return groggily from the holiday recess and then settle into their seats for the presidents State of the Union address at the end of the month. But almost halfway through January, the White House says it still has no date for the prime-time speech on the Hill.
In principle, setting the timing is the job of congressional leaders, who technically have to invite the president to come speak (they've never not invited him, and hes never declined the invitation). In reality, though, the date is the result of closed-door agreements between senior White House and congressional aides, who compare schedules and pick the most convenient and strategic Tuesday in the first month of the year.
Saying the consideration is strategic may be the best way to explain this years delay. The high-profile speech to top members of all three branches is a chance to reflect on the past year, bragging about what got done. President Obama had many challenges in 2009escalating the war on terror, creating jobs, justifying the bank bailoutsbut few identifiable slam-dunk successes. Whether any slam dunks were possible during such a slog is open for debate, but the fact remains that Obama has few of the legislative accomplishments he promised during his campaign.
Unless, of course, he can point to a brand-new health-care-reform bill adorned with his signature.

LOL!
Obama's going to mention "the previous administration" so much in his speech it'll become a new drinking game. Only someone with a Kennedy-like consitution will be able to survive without alcohol poisoning.
The State of the Union is not good...
Yep,
Everything that ails us is due to that evil Bush.
When is this zero going to be held accountable?
Maybe Tuesday?
We should probably get around to establishing the
“keywords” and phrases for shots. Let’s see:
1) “Crisis”
2) “Unprecidented”
3) “Previous Administration”
4) “Inherited”
I don’t really know about playing this year. Alcohal poisoning seems to be a guarantee more than a distant threat.
He’ll also manage to get in a mention of the “Qu’aran” with his cute pronunciation, and talk about how Al Qaeda “hijacked a religion of peace” or whatever.
He is afraid to face us.
He is the biggest joke in American presidential history. He is a complete loser. He is so far in over his head, it's not funny.
This is exactly what many of us predicted. Obama had no prior experience in his life of managing even a small organization, much less anything of such size and consequence.
The U. S. has become a failed experiment because no representative form of government can be any smarter than its dumb-ass voters taken in by a worthless con man like the jackass they elected president.
Au contraire.
Zero has had many successes in the past year in making huge strides towards reaching his and his sponsors’ goal of dismantling the American economy, destroying the middle class, and endangering our nation’s security and safety.
Oh, goody, I hope he gets in a "POK E STON" and then pause the way he does and glare at all the non conforming infidels in whatever bootlicking, lickspittle audience members happen to be in his onenesses presence.
Remember when he was the head ramrod in changing "Swine flu" to " H1/N1 " ? That was a classic press conference too. Obama thinks being president is about correcting everyones pronunciation. Again, its about addessing the "mistakes" of the past.
They’re just trying to divert to keep a massive demonstration out of D.C. for the SOTU. Bank on it, they know we’re coming. Bank on that, too.
5) Unexpected
Leni
Actually, his favorite phrase is “Let me be clear”
Quite true, but how does he make all that feces sound delicious? This is going to be a 2 hour 'Blame Bush Marathon' and the press for ask for seconds.
