Top Movies of the Decade

I know…technically the decade doesn’t end until next year. Whatever. The first 10 years of the 20th Century, as it was, was a great era for great movies. In my mind, we saw a true resurgence of innovation and imagination…with some routine Hollywood nonsense thrown in.

Now, I took some editorial leeway on some of these, as you will see. For what it is worth, here is my top 10 list:

LOL - Since the correct span of years doesn't matter I'm choosing A Walk In The Clouds (1995), only because it featured Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, a truly beautiful woman.

There were better movies in 1993 alone (Schindler’s List, The Fugitive, and Groundhog Day) than in 2000-2009 in toto. Hollyweird has gone off the deep end.

P.S. I did mostly like Little Miss Sunshine.

Why not just post the list instead of linking a website that doesn’t load right?

As was pointed out on neo's "Best of 2009" thread, then his blog wouldn't get the hits.

Just another noob who doesn't understand the show.

Superman was a unique movie for it's time. I thought it was a weirdly disjointed movie. IIRC, there were three directors. The first director did the childhood scenes, and treated it like a Christ movie. The second director did the middle, where Superman was introduced to Metropolis. He created the ditzy Lois Lane, "there's only one 'p' in 'rapist,'" and the laughably horrible flying sequence with Lois and Superman. The third guy did the climax at the end, which was like a Japanese monster movie.

Christopher Reeve was the best cast Superman ever. He had the looks, the build, and could play the character as ridiculously noble and naive without making him goofy.

It was definitely the best super hero movie until the current crop came up. I think the best was the Dark Knight, although there's something about the Batman movies that Batman is generally the weakest character. Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldham made the movie and Christian Bale didn't screw it up. "How about a magic trick?"

When I think of the last ten years, “The Queen” jumps out at me.

(shudder)

The Pasion of the Christ

The Incredibles

Team America: World Police

...can't think of too many others off the top of my head.

*BARF*.

Makes me glad I live in the US, and makes me wonder why we EVER started the H1-B program.

Cheers!

I can proudly state that of the “top 10,” I only saw the Incredibles. The others, I either never heard of or had no desire to see.

Don’t worry about the “hall monitors” telling you “this decade” doesn’t end for another year. “This decade” is WHATEVER 10 YEAR PERIOD YOU WANT IT TO BE. If you want to have a list of the Top 10 films of this decade, then you are obviously talking about the last 10 years. You could do this in a year that ends with any number, such as 2015. When people are talking about a decade such as the 20s, 30s, etc., 99.999% of them include the year that ends with a zero as the first year of that decade. Thus the 90s started with 1990.

Inglorious Basterds isn’t on the list, thus it is meaningless.

I prefer Richard Lester’s ‘Superman 2’ to the original. It’s a much more mature film with a genuine adult romance ala Lester’s ‘Petelia’ and ‘Robin and Marian’
