Garrison Keillor: The Jews Have Screwed Up Our Christmas
Baltimore Sun/The Lid ^ | 12/19/09 | The Lid

Posted on 12/20/2009 3:02:31 PM PST by Shellybenoit

Jews have been accused of many Ills by the bigots of the world, supposedly we control the banks, the media, foreign policy, and the American Government (Thankfully Obama disproves that one). Lately Jews have been accused of creating swine flu and the housing bubble that created the economic crisis (well Barney Frank IS Jewish).

During the Christmas season, many bigots revive the old anti-Semitic slander of diacide, that the Jews killed Christ.

Garrison Keillor, of Prairie Home Companion fame has come up with a brand new slur for Christmas, the Jews ruined the holiday by writing lousy Christmas songs.

I always knew that he was a bitter arse. Now, we get to add “anti-semitic douchebag” to the list of monikers for Mr. Keillor.

What do you expect from a leftist jackass who stated on one of his shows:

“I’m one of those tax-and-spend, gun-confiscating liberal Democrat.”

90% of the audience cheered. 5% booed.

Typical POS.

Keillor, you disfigured gnome, if it weren't for a Jew, there wouldn't be a Christmas.

Heathen.

Keillor is being tongue-in-cheek. He’s a flaming leftist. He doesn’t give a sh*t about Christianity. Yid with a Lid is being taken in by a phoney schtick.

Obviously, this clown (and he’s neither a funny nor witty one) never heard of, among many other Jewish Americans who contributed remarkable things to America, a talent named Irving Berlin, who wrote the most beloved secular celebration of a Christian holiday, White Christmas. Stick to your dopey PBS-paid (i.e., taxpayer subsidized) evocations of your boring childhood, Mr. Keillor.

Keillor, this time I agree with, when he says:" Christmas is a Christian holiday - if you're not in the club, then buzz off. Celebrate Yule instead or dance around in druid robes for the solstice. Go light a big log, go wassailing and falalaing until you fall down, eat figgy pudding until you puke, but don't mess with the Messiah."

"Christmas does not need any improvements. It is a common, ordinary experience that resists brilliant innovation. Just make some gingerbread persons and light three candles and sing softly in dim light about the poor man gathering winter fu-u-el and the radiant beams and the holly and the ivy, and you've got it. Too many people work too hard to make Christmas perfect, find the perfect gifts, get a turkey that reaches 100 percent of potential. Perfection is a goal of brilliant people, and it is unnecessary where Christmas is concerned."

He’s not anti-Semitic, though probably very, very anti-Israel, which is anti-Semitic though he would never admit to it. He’s PRETENDING. He thinks he’s MAKING FUN OF CHRISTIANS, all of whom he assumes are anti-Semites (except for those few Liberation Theologies who help illegals and terrorists get across the border and who do, in fact, hate Israel and are, in fact anti-Semites (whoops!)), so to bring up great Jewish composers in American history is to miss the point of this leftist jerk’s leftist “humor”. He agrees with you about Irving Berlin. He’s being “cute” and “funny” at the expense (he thinks) of the only group he truly and forever hates: Conservative Christians.

I’ve got news for you, Keillor, you leftist schmuck, you are WAYYYYY more anti-Semitic than you’re phony pretend persona, and Conservative Christians care WAYYYYY more about the survival of Jews than you and your Jeremiah Wright scumbag leftist friends.

Christian holiday, Christmas, Birth of Christ vs. the song White Christmas, part of the "huggy" pop culture music and has nothing to do with what Christmas is really all about.

There appears to be a blur between understanding the Birth of a King and mistletoe, tree tops glistening and people dressing up like Eskimos. ah huh....

Garrison=@$$h@T:

The invention of local anesthesia by Carl Koller and the discovery of Novocaine by Alfred Einhorn.

The discovery that pancreatic dysfunction is the cause of diabetes by Oskar Minkowski (together with Joseph von Mering+) and the subsequent discovery that this dysfunction involves a deficiency in the hormonal secretions of the islets of Langerhans by Moses Barron.

The work of the Canadian team that isolated insulin (Banting+, Best+, Collip+, and Macleod+) was based on these two prior discoveries.

The discovery of the ABO and other human blood groups and of the Rh factor by Karl Landsteiner.

The introduction of the side-chain theory of antibody formation by Paul Ehrlich, which has evolved into clonal selection theory, the central paradigm of modern immunology. Ehrlich shared the 1908 Nobel Prize with Élie Metchnikoff* for their independent contributions to immunology. Ehrlich is also considered to be the founder of modern chemotherapeutic medicine. His development of Salvarsan (1909) and Neosalvarsan (1911) constituted the first effective treatment for syphilis and, in the words of Sir Alexander Fleming+, "the beginning - and a magnificent beginning - of bacterial chemotherapy"8 (i.e., antibiotics).

The isolation and development of penicillin by Sir Ernst Chain. Chain shared the 1945 Nobel Prize for this work with Sir Alexander Fleming+ and Sir Howard Florey+. It was Chain who recognized the potential of Fleming's+ nearly forgotten discovery of the antibacterial properties of Penicillium molds (one of many agents then known to have such properties).

The development of streptomycin by Selman Waksman. Waksman received the 1952 Nobel Prize for this work, which created the first antibiotic (a term that he introduced) effective against tuberculosis, for which (in combination with other drugs) it remains a therapeutic mainstay.

The isolation of cortisone by Tadeus Reichstein. Reichstein shared the 1950 Nobel Prize with Edward Kendall+ and Philip Hench+. Reichstein and Kendall+ were recognized for having independently isolated and characterized the hormones of the adrenal cortex.

The chemical synthesis of cortisone for large-scale production was achieved independently by the chemists Carl Djerassi and Percy Julian+.

The invention of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) by Charles Gerhardt. Aspirin is an artificially modified form of salicylic acid, a naturally occurring substance that can be obtained from the bark of willow trees, whose analgesic properties have been known since antiquity.

Salicylic acid is, however, very poorly tolerated by the digestive system, which greatly limits its medicinal value. The original proposal to reduce its toxicity through acetylation, and the first synthesis of acetylsalicylic acid was the work of Charles Frédéric Gerhardt.

The discovery of prostaglandins by M. W. Goldblatt. (Also discovered independently by Ulf von Euler+.) Sir John Vane* was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1982 for demonstrating that the anti-inflammatory and analgesic action of aspirin-like drugs was via their inhibition of prostaglandin production. Vane* also discovered the vasodilator prostacyclin, which led directly to the development of the ACE inhibitors that are widely used in the treatment of hypertension, heart failure, and other vascular diseases. The development of the COX-2 selective inhibitors (such as the "super-aspirin" Celebrex, widely used by severe arthritis sufferers) was largely the work of Philip Needleman.

The discovery of neurotransmitters by Otto Loewi. Loewi shared the 1936 Nobel Prize with Sir Henry Dale+ for their independent work on acetylcholine.

Sir Bernard Katz and Julius Axelrod shared the 1970 Nobel Prize with Ulf von Euler+ for advanced work on neurotransmitters. Their work led directly to the development of the class of anti-depressants that includes Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil. Axelrod was also the co-developer, with Bernard Brodie, of the pain reliever acetaminophen (Tylenol).

The discovery of endorphins and enkephalins by Solomon Snyder and Hans Kosterlitz, respectively.

The discovery and characterization of growth factors by Rita Levi-Montalcini, Viktor Hamburger, and Stanley H. Cohen. Levi-Montalcini and Cohen shared the 1986 Nobel Prize for their identification and isolation of the nerve and epidermal growth factors, respectively.

The development of Warfarin (Coumadin) anticoagulant therapy by Shepard Shapiro. Warfarin is the most commonly used anticoagulant for the prevention of heart attacks and strokes. It is also one of the most widely prescribed medications in the world. It was discovered in 1946 by Karl Paul Link+, who developed it as a rat poison. Its identification and development for use in human anticoagulant therapy resulted from the work of Shapiro in the early 1950s. Previously, in the early 1940s, Shapiro had pioneered the clinical use of the anti-clotting agent methylene dicoumarin (dicoumarol), which was also discovered by Link+.

The development of oral contraceptives by Gregory Pincus, Carl Djerassi, and Frank Colton.

The development of the Salk and Sabin polio vaccines by Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin, respectively. The discovery that the causative agent in polio was, in fact, a virus was made in 1908 by Karl Landsteiner and Erwin Popper.

The development of the Hepatitis-B vaccine by Baruch Blumberg and Irving Millman. Blumberg received the 1976 Nobel Prize, in part for this work.

The co-discovery of interferon by Alick Isaacs (in collaboration with Jean Lindenmann+). The large-scale production of recombinant interferon for medical use (a market currently in excess of $7 billion annually) is based largely on the work of Charles Weissmann and Sidney Pestka. Pestka received the US National Medal of Technology in 2001.

The invention of cancer chemotherapy by Louis Goodman, Alfred Gilman, and Sidney Farber. In the early 1940s, Goodman and Gilman discovered the effectiveness of mechlorethamine ("nitrogen mustard") in the treatment of lymphatic malignancies.

And that is from about 30 seconds of research

I can believe that Keillor is being tongue-in-cheek with his contempt for those Americans who don't share his political views.

If he is serious, he should get together with Mel Gibson--they would seem to share a lot of views in common (about Jews and about George W. Bush). Might have to get Mel drunk to get him to open up.

Keillor was raised in a small, very strict Protestant denomination (he called it "Sanctified Brethren" in something I read a long time ago, but perhaps he changed the name). He wouldn't be the first to go to the other extreme--Joseph Stalin was once a seminary student.

That’s somebody Keillor can BELIEVE in.

Dear Mr. Keillor,

Roses are reddish,
violets are bluish
If it weren’t for Christmas,
We’d all be Jewish!

Correction: "part of the "huggy" pop culture music", should read part of the 'huggy' pop culture invasion of the true Christmas music.

I know Keillor's comments on the war. I also find him funny on Prairie Home Companion. I tend to diagree on some political fronts and in this case on what Christmas is all about. Those that often make money off Christmas, do not actually celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. But capitalism is for the taker.

New Christmas Music can be sung openly, but if Christmas music describes the birth of a King or mentions Mary, in some schools it cannot be.
