SNIPPET: "Sudden jihad syndrome or just the crazy? I'll remind my readers that the two are not mutually exclusive categories.
In fact, Aaron over at SOFIR has a pretty interesting typology of the "terrorist continuum" in which he posits that the more rational the terrorist the more likely they will be to need organizational help. At the other end of the spectrum are "lone wolves" who are characterized by a high degree of "internal disquiet".
I've no idea if the grad student/murderer named Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani was motivated by Islamic extremism. I throw it out there because it can't be discounted at this point. Especially given that the victim, Professor Richard T. Antoun, specialized in studying religious fundamentalism, Islamic law, and dispute resolution in Islamic societies."

“SOME POINTERS FOR THE PERSISTENTLY PERPLEXED As regards “Spy Agencies’ Quest: What Makes A Terrorist?””
SNIPPET: “I would like to submit the following for consideration:
* Terrorism is about killing.”
SNIPPET: “* Motivation is not enough. Association, motivation, and opportunity must combine in order for someone to make good on their terrorist ambitions.”
Would like to see if there is a PC connection that wasn’t reported on this creep, too.
Absolutely horrifying.
Updates will be posted as I see them.

“Prof. Richard Antoun remembered as gentle man dedicated to dispelling stereotypes about different cultures”
BY GEORGE BASLER AND TOM WILBER
Every time I see the word Muslim or Islam, there is some form of violence that goes along with it.

Update 4 p.m., 12/5:
“Stabbing suspect identified”
Author: Melissa Bykofsky News Editor
Published: December 04, 2009
SNIPPET: “Abdulsalam Al-Zahrani, 46, was taken to the Broome County Jail at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Broome County Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Carlson said in the report.”
He was arraigned Saturday morning in Town of Vestal court.
Antoun, 77, was stabbed four times with a 6-inch kitchen blade in Science 1 around 1:45 p.m. He died at Wilson Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon.”
Guess the good professor couldn’t resolve the most important dispute in his lifetime.
**Every time I see the word Muslim or Islam, there is some form of violence that goes along with it.**
Thank you for noticing this, also... every “Hot Spot” (shooting war) in the world, seems to have Muslims or islam on ONE side.
I want them Rounded up until an individual THREAT ASSESSMENT can be implemented. If they are not, give them an apology and send themon their way... if there is even the SLIGHTEST POSSIBILITY that they could even Possibly be a threat to this country... SHIP THEM OUT.. I don’t care if they’re citizens or not.
**...dedicated to dispelling stereotypes about different cultures**
Guess the poor Professor failed to realize that some “Stereotypes” are CORRECT, and are THere for a REASON!!
You’d think given his areas of study, Professor Antoun would have seen this guy coming...and shot him first.
I'm with you.
It'll never happen, though. The Bill of Rights really is a suicide pact.
See you at Covadonga.
