My favorite car of all time is the Ford Mustang.
I fell in love with it when I saw Steve McQueen’s BULLITT. Been in love with it ever since.
It’s simply one of the best cars Ford ever made IMHO.
don’t like it. Looks too much like a Volks Passat.
2009 is a better design.
I just can’t get used to “muscle” cars with a displacement of 281 CI.
My first car was a 67 Chrysler New Yorker with a 440 and 4 barrel. Very powerful automobile.
I know, I know. The engineering is better and they get more from less and all that, but 281 just sounds so... undernourished.
I saw one of these today on the road.
First thing I noticed was the taillights. The car looks a lot like the previoss model overall, but the back end is angled at the taillights. Good look.
Tail-light change is in the video at :35.
Speelcheck: “previous”
And I can easily pull my wheelchair in behind the drivers seat, which is a feature hard to find nowadays. (The 2009 Challenger looks like it will also!)
Trust me, almost everytung I own has a Big Block Ford in it, but that said, my 2003 Mercury Marauder (281-4v) kicks butt! it cant get traction at the track for nothing, but still does low 14s buring out all the way down the track. it would do mid 13s with drag radials.
it truely is the spiritual desendant of my long gone 1969 Ford XL, or my 1971 LTD (429 with floor shift/buckets)
Not even close.
;-/
Doesn’t seem very impressive. The old 283’s were great engines re: “bang for the buck” and durability. They’re probably saving room for the after market upgrades. If this gets 25+ MPG city, then the stats look OK.
But I can’t get my wheelchair in behind the drivers seat on a Mustang.
And for a 5 year old car, that’s pretty good gas mileage!
It seemed to me that while watching BULLITT I had the distinct feeling that somebody on the production souped up the MUSTANG a bit. I’m not sure about that but that’s how it seemed to me. I also like the fact that they left in a continuity error by showing the car losing a lot more than two or three hubcaps on any one side. By the way, does anybody know what happened to that original mustang that McQueen drove? Was it sold or auctioned?
WANT!!!
That’s kinda disappointing. My 2005 RX8 with some slight modification can beat these numbers.
Zero to Ugly in 3.2 seconds flat.
Love it. The Mustang is awesome.
Nice to see the American car companies getting their act together, at least in this segment of the market.
Had me a Yellow ‘72 Mach I when I graduated in ‘74, 351C 4sp
Damn! I wish I had that now!
2011 base Mustang will have a 3.7L 315hp V6
GT will have a 5.0L 400hp V8 and a six speed.
I had an ‘61 Impala with the classic small-block 283 (a modest 2-barrel carb in my case).
The Ford equivalent was a 289, wasn’t it?
