E.L.C.A.
Tune: "Y.M.C.A."
"Luth'ran"
Doesn't mean quite the same
As what you've been
Taught to know by that name.
We're removin'
All the scandal and shame
Of a church that stands for something.
Luth'ran,
No, you're not misinformed,
Yes, it's true now,
We commune the Reformed.
No forced union
Made us bow or conform,
Just a warm and fuzzy feeling.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there's no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please.
Luth'ran,
Won't you please come along
To the Elca,
Where's there's no right or wrong.
In the Elca,
Heretics can belong,
They can teach at seminary.
"Luth'ran,"
But our fingers were crossed,
All our doctrine
Has been totally lost.
All that's Luth'ran
Is what we have embossed
On our cards and stationery.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there's no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please.
Elca,
Where it's very uncouth
And unwelcome
To say you have the truth
And where seldom
Is a word ever heard
To discourage sin or error.
Elca,
Where it's all shades of gray,
I said, Elca,
Where it's hip to be gay.
Our umbrella
Is as big as a tent,
There's no need for you to repent.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
We have women in black,
Now there's no turning back
To the hang-ups of dead white guys.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
It's fun to be in the E.L.C.A.
You can set yourself free
From dead orthodoxy,
You can do whatever you please. . . .
I am a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), and we have plenty of problems of our own, which I am not reluctant to speak out against. But this latest stuff from the ELCA is so egregious it cries out for condemnation.
(BTW, I originally started out in an ELCA-predecessor church body, the old Swedish Augustana Synod.)
Ping.
May a tornado knock over their cross.
From your lips to God's/Goddess's/Gaia's ears!
OK, I saw that earlier, so I cheated a bit. =o)
The ELCA, also known as the ELCGay or the ELDNCA.
Very good, Charles.
It doesn’t quite replace “A Mighty Fortress is our God,” does it? On the other hand, it far more accurately catches the essence of the ELCA, which has for some time been decidedly not Lutheran. Now it is moving into the territory of the ludicrous. I don’t think that the leadership and most of its pastors realize what a joke they are becoming, and how little respect they have from either the world or the rest of Christendom. They just talk to each other in their little echo chambers and plot (and plod) on, one lemming after the other. So, maybe, to go along with your new choir anthem for the ELCA a name change as well: Eminently Ludicrous Church in America. The upper crust of the ELCA won’t get it, but everyone else will.
When I got to
"And where seldom
Is a word ever heard
To discourage sin or error.
I reflexively sang instead...
"And seldom is heard
A discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day"
Just a habit from loving old B Western music...
Great picture. It says it all.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, lived there for 30 years. Tornadoes that come out of nowhere - as this did - are rare events ... and for it to happen at what is pretty close to being the mother church of the ELCA ... nah, mere coincidence. Don’t worry about it. I am sure God had nothing to do with it. I’m sure it had no meaning whatsoever for the convention now in session a stone’s throw away. (as crickets continue to chirp in the night) Sleep soundly tonight, Bishop Hanson, sleep soundly.
No time for an overture to the 2010 SC.
May God grant that it be brought from the floor.
Any reaction yet from the ELC-Gays? I’m sure there will be a reaction to your parody and sure would like to hear what it is.
Nosterrex, I echo your wish that the ELCA would drop the word "Lutheran" from its name. Every time I see an article about the ELCA posted on FR, I jump on it to post the disclaimer, if necessary, that this synod has absolutely NO connection with my Missouri Synod in which I was baptized and confirmed....and which I love. Too many people don't know that the two are totally different entities (thank God!).
It's a lot of work (jumpin' in all the time) but someone has to do it, LOL.
If the ELCA changed "Lutheran" to "Liberal" it could retain the same acronym. If only........

Pastor Charles wrote the song E.L.C.A.
LOL! I thought that tornado took place sometime in the past but when I google searched for ELCA out of curiosity, I see it happened right when they were convening yesterday. Here is the REPORT from The Minnesota Independent:
Two close calls marked the third day of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) on Wednesday. The nearly 2,000 Lutherans, media and activists assembled at the Minneapolis Convention Center took cover as a tornado nipped one side of the building and damaged the steeple of a Lutheran church across the street. A short time later, the 1,014 voting members would pass a social statement relaxing church doctrine on homosexuality with a dramatic vote that was exactly a two-thirds majority. One vote against would have killed the measure.
Is it true that the Missouri Synod preaches that one can only get to heaven as a member of the Missouri Synod? Or did they have this belief at one time?
I think we need to get a few of the more ‘progressive’ ELCA pastors on to the idea that the Lutheran in their name just sounds so old-church and really needs to be dropped. You know, it will draw in so many more young people that way. :)
You ought to ask the originator of this thread that question.
See #16, #18.
