Dear Freepers, Oppose Obama on the issues, not his alleged legitimacy (he really is legit)
Aug 5, 2009

Posted on 08/05/2009 6:40:35 AM PDT by Edward Watson

In my personal opinion, Obama is a disaster for America. I believe future historians will describe this period as the OBAMA CATASTROPHE - the time when America collectively lost its mind and voted for a man and a group of leftists who quickly destroyed the nation in favor of socialism and income redistribution.

However, if people want to save the American nation and way of life - the best and most benevolent society in human history; opposition must be passionate and RATIONAL. The entire legitimacy or birther issue is indeed passionate but definitely not rational.

It has been frustrating to see my fellow-Freepers waste so much time and effort arguing that Obama isn't a legitimate president. He is and no amount of wishful thinking to the contrary will change that fact.

Salon has a great article addressing all the issues of the matter (see sourced website above).

What has become of us? I know some conservatives tend to lean towards mindless conspiracy theories but this is getting ridiculous.

Free Republic is a forum where conservative issues are discussed, hopefully rationally but always passionately. I remember when we all laughed at the conspiracy theories emanating from the liberals and leftists (i.e., 9-11 was an inside job) and now the same type of lunacy has infected this forum.

Time to stop the birther distraction and focus on the real issue of saving the Republic.

Personally, I'm not all that interested in the "birther" debate, though I find it mildly entertaining to peruse the latest "evidence" on both sides.

That said, if other people want to make it their hobby horse, then I say let them. In my mind, anything that keeps the heat on Obama and calls his legitimacy into question (so long as it represents a good faith effort and is not the promotion of some ridiculous hoax for the purpose of gaining celebrity) weakens his side.

It may indeed be true that we're stuck with this turd for four years, but if this issue (and the very legitimate questions that it provokes) cause some state legislators to take action it will have been a worthy effort. Fool me twice, shame on me...

I want to see ALL the documents he has sealed. Those records were supplied by other candidates, why not him? WTH is he hiding them for?

In my personal opinion,

That's all you have. You surrender so easily to propaganda. Resistance is futile, eh?

"Define “Natural Born Citizen”, and provide a legal citation."

================================

Depends on what the definition of the word "is" is. /s

Natural Born Citizen is self explanatory.

Sheesh.

The Mod removed his link and changed the title. It was :Salon’s handy-dandy guide to refuting the Birthers.

There was a link to a Salon article. This is the same title as his vanity of a few days ago. I think TPTB are getting fed up.

I don’t know what is more rational than demanding that ALL the sealed records of obama be opened. He used that tactic against his opponant to win the us house seat, but now he sits in the White House not only with no experience, but with no history. The President of the United States is supposed to be accountable to the American people, but this goofball has insulated and hidden himself from everyone. This should have been done 18 months ago, (no thanks gop)but here we are. If this guy wants to lead, then we need to know who he is. The birth certificate is just ONE of his records that are hidden and sealed. How the hell did a guy get into this office with NO information available to the American taxpayer who funds his crazy ass ideas, and the military that carries out his foreign policy and may be sent off to die for this country. It about accountability, and that is all.

That is not our problem. I in no way feel bound to what John McCain did or said. For example, McCain supports amnesty. I don’t nor do the overwhelming majority of Repuiblicans or Americans.

Here is a good article by Andy McCarthy on the issue--Suborned in the U.S.A. The birth-certificate controversy is about Obama’s honesty, not where he was born.

focus on the real issue of saving the Republic

There is no Republic to save without the Constitution.

How have you missed the fact that that is exactly what this is all about?

It isn’t my pet issue, but I am always on the side of truth. And if there is any doubt whatsoever about whether BO is truly eligible, then the truth must prevail. That can only happen with a release of the long form BC.

Actually I can do all that and a whole lot more...and don't insult my intelligence because I have a different opinion than you do.

That's something a liberal puke would do...

Quite a conspiracy theory. He has spent all that money to fight it in court only to produce it and laugh? I think not. That’s akin to claiming Rove planted Rathers phony papers.

’ If you think it is trivial or irrational, talk to Major Sefan Cook, who refused orders based on this issue to deploy to Afghanistan “

Obama is Commander in Chief.
My son was required by his recruiter, to provide a long form original birth certificate when he joined the military after 9/11.
I am sure I also had to provide the same when I joined.
Obama has a duty and a moral obligation to remove this cloud from his presidency.
This all goes to character and honor.
By playing hide and seek games with his birth certificate ,
Obama is giving the American people and members of the military -the finger.
A man of character and decency like George Bush , would never send men and women into battle
knowing some of them had qualms about the bizarre secrecy of his background.
Obama’s secretive and inexplicable actions concerning all aspects of his past,
are those of a man who has no respect for the office,
the citizens and the military.

Well you at least succeeded in changing the focus for a hour or so. But that is FR and the way it works. Don’t worry as Ma Palin will sneeze or something else then she’ll be back front and center while later another issue with the BC will come forward to run it’s course and maybe next the TOTUS will malfunction, etc, etc..

Freepers or at least most of us will come to the issue[s] that are front and center at any one moment. The focus seems to be more on national issues rather than local but that’s to be expected as we are a worldwide group made up of locals.

Take care, have a nice day and look for the next hot topic.

I agree, and thank you for your post. I'd like to know how many Freepers think we should use the same slash and burn tactics used by MoveOn.org and other liberal groups. If the number is as high as it seems, I'd be sorely disappointed.
