On Friday, July 10th, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin signed House Joint Resolution 27 (HJR27), sponsored by State Rep. Mike Kelly. The resolution “claims sovereignty for the state under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government by the Constitution of the United States.”
The House passed the resolution by a vote of 37-0 (3 not voting) and the Senate passed it by a vote of 40-0.
Six other states have had both houses of their legislature pass similar resolutions - Tennessee, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Louisiana - Alaska joins Tennessee as the second to have such a resolution signed by the Governor.
A GROWING MOVEMENT
Passage of this resolution appears to be part of what is now a growing state-level resistance to the federal government on various levels. Similar 10th Amendment resolutions have been introduced in 37 states around the country, and various states are considering single-issue legislation in direct contravention to federal laws.

It’s a pingpong match.
Yeah, sure, they could come out with an equivalent of a Declaration of Independence and tell the feds that they are gonna shoot ‘em if they cross into the state,
but you can’t do that right away.
That’s a few volleys down the road.
The US Constitution states I can keep and bear arms, but Federal laws put limits on where I can bear them, even if I never leave the State in which I am resident.
As an example, suppose a State experiencing a rash of stolen handguns from checked airline luggage wanted to allow state residents with state-issued concealed handgun permits to transport unloaded and locked handguns in the passenger cabin on intrastate airline flights only.
This would be a direct violation of federal law, even though the right to bear arms is constitutionally guaranteed.
I think these “new” laws may be setting the groundwork for future legal action from the states against the Feds on issues such as this.
Just to remind the vermin on Capitol Hill that there is stuff in the constitution that they are failing to notice as they violate one amendment after another. Just a friendly reminder that will become unfriendly the minute the Feds start actively violating the constitution.

The 14th and 17th amendments, actually. Due to ‘penumbras and emanations’ the 10th essentially doesn’t exist.
Just part of the legacy if mendacity that is the SCOTUS.
Like this would happen in Wisconsin. We’re a mini Fed gov here. It’s really pathetic. Chase business away, tax everything. Oh, don’t worry, a 1000 employee company moves our of state, but a Minnesota company moves in and makes MAJOR headlines in the media. They have 4, FOUR, employees. That’s the news.
Here’s a story, we have a strong conservative Milwaukee county executive (running for governor), and the commie governor, both were in the Circus Parade in Milwaukee. The county executive was cheered, the governor was booed. Won’t see that reported in the msm.

Close enough. Now, since it is a state, it makes its own rules. But the big bad federal government wants to make other rules.

My understanding is that there are three types of bears in the US: polar bears, black bears, and brown bears (brown bears also being known as “grizzlies”, with Kodiaks as a specific type of brown bear/grizzly bear).
As for reasserting state’s rights, I think it’s great as long as it’s not lip service. The federal government has become an all-encompassing cancer, permeating every part of our country and our lives. It will kill us if we don’t do something, if it’s not already too late. Our nation is very sick.
Dear God, I hope it’s not too late, but I’m not so sure! :-(

There is nothing in the Constitution authorizing federal control of education but the federal government controls it anyway. Nor is there anything authorizing a federal health care system, but they’re going to do it anyway.

And still Delaware does NOTHING. The ONLY state that does not recognize that all power comes from the people. The ONLY state that has never filed such a resolution.

Yes and no. I liken it to a battered wife saying, "no more beatings". The question is: does she really mean it or will she drop the charges and take back her sugar daddy? These resolutions are a restraining order. I agree about the law suits - that's the .357 in the purse along with the new carry permit.
