Here’s my fashion rule - Only supercilious dinks wear a bow tie.

Well, George Will gets the crotchety award of the year. To each his own of course, but I hate getting dressed up as, I imagine, do many others.

But I guess Will has to eat and it’s a slow news day.

Will is a smug jerk. Even when he gets it right he’s still a smug jerk.

His article reminds me of the time I had to meet the CEO of a new client. I had only spoken to him on the phone but he sounded like a guy in his fifties. I was in my late twenties at the time and figgered, better put on a suit. I show up all doodied up and the guy is in jeans, t-shirt, and old, worn, docksiders with no socks. Now I call people’s secretary’s ahead of time and inquire as to the dress code.

There was another time where my company, a client, and one of our markets all met for a joint meeting. Everyone is in suits and, over lunch, we’re all discussing how wonderful it is that our company’s have all casual dress codes. Subsequent meetings, no more suits.

I don't know where you live or how old you are but here in Colorado, blue jeans rule the day. My dad who is 75 is of your mindset but during the depression days, his family could only afford jeans. I had to dress all the time when I grew up but now that I am on my own, I choose jeans 99% of the time. I will wear dress slacks when forced to and when I am forced to, I will cause grief on to those who insist on it. I will be willing to dress such as funerals, weddings or job interviews but that is it !

Here’s mine: Only farmers and cowboys (should) wear jeans.

An interesting link on the => Down with Denim. The writer of the article has this web site as well. This writer is against denim as well.

Most of this mindset is from these East Coast Elitists and this is part of the reason why I will not live in the East Coast states besides the liberalism. The social rules there are much more formal and uptight and dress code is a part of that.
