From AceofSpades

"Meet HR 875. Its a "small" bill, not nearly as voluminous as the Spendulus, and it can easily be read in one sitting if you just want to get the gist of the nightmare it will create."

"Basically, HR 875 sets up a MASSIVE new government bureaucracy called the Food Safety Administration, and compels anything known as a "food establishment" to register with the federal government (paying registration fees of course) and to submit to inspections that are at different intervals depending on the type of "food establishment" you are."

>>People would ignore most of this BS.

We’re living the book.

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
- Ayn Rand, ‘Atlas Shrugged’ 1957

OK... I'll bite... what can't you grow in your veggie garden in New Mexico?

...and end up with a big fat fine, or a little stay in club fed.

I was taught way back in high school,,, way back when there was still some education in the public school,, that in Soviet Russia,, they made so many laws the police could stop any person on the street at any time and, if questioned him long enough or took him to his home, would find him in violation of some law. Another thing about the Soviet Union,, to disagree with the state meant you had a mental disorder.
We’ll be headed in that direction soon enough!

this will destroy the local food and organic food movements that liberals love so dearly.

I don’t think they even have a clue.

They’re going after the organic stuff too. That’s the health food of choice for the watermellons and their allies the ACORNs. Just wait ‘till the fed boot comes down on ‘em.

Hopefully the vegetarian, organic flakes who voted for Obama will understand this.

LOL! Right! Especially those advocating the purchase and use of foodstuffs from no more than 100 miles from where you live, or no more than an hour, or something like that. That's where the farmstands become so important. We have several nice farmstands in the area, and I like to purchase stuff from them in the summer and into the fall.

According to the video you linked, it's the evil corporations that are behind this, but since the Democrats are in charge of the House and Senate, it's THEY who will determine the outcome of this legislation. The Democrat foodies are gonna have to pressure them, cause we Republicans have no say in the matter, since we are outnumbered in Congress.

SSEC. 406. PRESUMPTION. 1 In any action to enforce the requirements of the food safety law, the connection with interstate commerce required for jurisdiction shall be presumed to exist

Would some of our lawyers weigh in here.

WTH kind of provision is this? What gives the state the right to presume something for which there is NO EVIDENCE? What is next ... the right of the state to presume that your DNA is at a crime scene?

It is ridiculous to assume that the local farmer's market is involved in interstate commerce. It might have brought in items from out of state, but it's just as possible that everything was grown within state lines, and therefore, theoretically free from the jurisdiction of federal busybodies.

Agree.....We used to have a big green back yard lawn we mowed and trimmed to keep up with the jones per se and now we have landscaped the back to be pretty much zero maintenance shy of raised bed garden plots and flower beds. We can clean up the back yard with a leaf vac, a power washer and a little careful weeding here and there. What we spend on water we harvest for dinner later. Front yard is all rockscape as well with trees and planters having drippers. Looks good just easier to maintain in our old age !

Stay safe !

I come from the northeast. When I visited my dad in Florida last year, coming back from church we were driving down the Orange Blossom Trail(Rt441) in Mount Dora toward Zellwood, I saw a sign saying boiled peanuts. I told my dad to pull over to that vegatable stand. I want to have myself some boiled peanuts. I read about them from the late ‘Gut Rumbles’ Georgia blogger Rob Smith. I never tried them before and I gotta get me some. I bought 3 pounds of jalapeno boiled peanuts. What a taste experience that was.
