Energy Secretary Steven Chu may be a Nobel laureate Ph.D. in physics, but his first forays into energy policy suggest he's a neophyte when it comes to the ways of Washington.

At a forum with reporters on Thursday, the head of the department that has traditionally taken the lead on global oil-market policy, was asked what message the Obama administration had for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries at its meeting next month.

This is actually good. It means that Chu will point at Obama the whole time and throw Obama under the bus when it comes to oil and gas policy. Obama can't hide behind this idiot.

What makes you think he is responsible for oil policy? My suspicion is that Henry Waxman is responsible for oil policy. You can sum up our oil policy with one word: “No.”

I heard him talk here at the U of Chicago. He was very entertaining. But the problem is when he and others like him think their extremely specific brilliance extends generally to everything else.

Nobel laureate in Physics. Thats great, but DOE Secretary isn’t a job in a lab where a wonk can ruminate and experiment with their cool unproven dreams.

It’s the department intended to run a brutally competitive business that has the most massive effect imaginable on our entire economy. It’s nearly criminal to put a person like him in charge of it. He’s another Obama clone. A etherial theoretical type, who has never been truly held responsible for successfully producing an end result.
