There has always been a desire to maintain credibility and integrity on Free Republic. That is eroding with each new, Obama, birth certificate story. Many of those creating this ruckus claim are flying a false flag of Constitutionality when it is actually an effort to paint all Conservatives with the broad brush of conspiratorialism of the most dangerous kind. Thank you.
He got $200M in undocumented (small) donations and ?? 500M ?? or more overall. And this is costing him how much? I've never seen a link to real numbers, just speculation of 1/2 to 1m.

The BC thing is the political equivalent of shining a flashlight on the wall to attract a cat. The cat gets worn out and the person with the flashlight gets a good laugh while more important things pass undetected.
There’s lots of cool cats here “hey, there’s that light again”. After: “I think I hurt my back”. Then there’s a couple cats who paw at the flashlight after the owner sets it down.
I know I’ll catch a lot of flak for this (and I’ve been a member here since circa 2001)but IMHO the Democrats didn’t win this election, the Republicans blew it, big time (and I voted for McCain/Palin). Somehow the message just didn’t get out there and you can blame the media all you want, but I believe that the McCain campaign simply was not handled well at all. That’s why Obama will be in office.

I agree. The worst is the bizarre, selective (living-document-esque) definition of “natural born” that so many are building their case on even though nobody would have been espousing that interpretation here a year or two ago.

Perhaps my use of the word “purge” was a bit strong but with all the news breaking re: Illinois politics, the BC postings were coming wave after wave after wave of like zombies in a George Romero movie.
It doesn’t influence and does little more than excite that particular fiefdom. People just shut it off and it becomes a fundraising point for the other side. If this is the best they can come up with, we are truly screwed.

I've been having fun on the BC threads for a while now, poking holes in their fragile arguments, and I've come to notice that out of thousands upon thousands of registered FReepers, these 30+ daily BC threads are nothing but a circle-jerk of the same two dozen people.
It will calm down after Inauguration Day. The rest of us rational adults can get on with promoting conservative candidates for 2010 while these two dozen Birthers can continue on sputtering, "B-B-B-BUT HE'S A KENYAN!!!!" and getting lawsuits laughed out of court faster than they can file them.
I think providing the proper document will be much easier than getting Obama to smile so they can get a tooth sample.

A judge can require a lot of things, but it takes a judgement, which means going to court. But all it takes is one proper document. The air will either stink or it will become Glade Fresh!
