There is a proposal by the congressman from Tyler, TX, that would give Americans a break from federal income and social security taxes for the first two months of 2009.
Of course, I support any tax cut. However, there are a few things to think about here:
1. If two months without income taxes is a good thing, then why not 3 months, or 6 months, or a whole year...get the picture?
2. Cutting the SSI contributions for 2 months will accelerate the insolvency of the social security "entitlement". Although I am for the dismantling of this welfare program, I think that care needs to be taken so as not to lead to a crash of the system for the elderly that depend on it.
3. The liberals will oppose, obviously, because the tax breaks would take the money away from their corrupt buddies in corporate America and leave it in the capable hands of the people. Also, they know that if Americans get a taste of how much they would take home without federal taxes, there will be plenty of folks out there that will finally figure out how much the government takes from them.
IOW you have no idea what you are talking about.
You can’t answer my simple question — so you prove that you have no knowledge of the subject matter.
As I surmised, tester-dude (hahahahaha — I love you testers: 1 step above 7/11 clerks).
MY point is that it won't be easy to implement. Other programs that net out the same way would probably make more sense. The "tax holiday" is emotionally appealing, but probably not effective.
No matter how smart I think I am, I know there are lots of people way smarter than me around.
Regardless, experience does not make one an expert, just take a look at all the big shot CEOs without a clue and the lifelong politicians..with empirical evidence like that, one one conclude that experience many times diminishes wisdom! hehe
I await your answer to my simple question.
It isn’t ad hominem to ask you to provide qualifications on the subject matter at hand.
You have opined — please tell all of us what the basis for that opinion is.
You are REALLY thrashing — I guess Google didn’t give you the answer (I knew it wouldn’t)
May I ask the provider and architecture?
no. you may not..and that is becasue I have nothing to prove. I am not the one claiming to be the expert. and by the way, I don’t care to know your credentials either.
IOW you have no knowledge of the subject at hand.
Thanks for confirming it.
Ah I see. res ipsa loquitur.
Your accusation of lying has been reported.
sorry, i dont speak insecureaboutmymanhoodese. (note to self: don’t bother replyin to this guy anymore; waste of time)
I ask for simple quals. You don’t provide them.
Pretty easy math here.
Oh no, we cnn’t allow such ‘economic distortions’ (phrase quoted from another thread!)
You are right on your math and the tax tables, but I think this post doesn’t really hit the point congressman Gohmert is trying to make. (for the record, he is my congressman and I know him personally..) The point he is trying to make with this is that congress is just ‘inventing’ money for these bailouts, far in excess of our government’s annual budget. His point is, it would be more prudent to ‘invent’ the money for the budget, and give the taxpayers their money back to bail out, through the market, what companies they see fit. After all, if you can solve things by inventing money, what is the point of collecting taxes.
Yes, I know, it is a symbolic move only and you are right, the way the tables are structured, a two month holiday wouldn’t really change anything. Knowing Louie, it is for shock value to make a point.
I have wasted half this thread trying to explain to amateurs why this would be difficult to implement and in doing so sort of lost the important underlying point.
Thanks for re-centering the discussion. The IDEA is solid and is designed to tell Congress that Tax Money isn't the property of the Government: it is the wages earned by the citizenry and then confiscated at the point of a gun. To ask the Government to let us keep what we have earned is always in order.
Perfect!
I think the manpower recalculating the tables would cost businesses more than the tax holiday would save individuals. Let’s not even go into things like pre-tax savings for 401k contributions, etc. Your idea of a long term plan would work if this was a realistic move, Louie just was making a point.
And a good one.
I feel a little ashamed for making such a big deal about the least important detail.
Your point is very good because we do have some, so called Conservative congressmen who do nothing but make symbolic points with no substance. Louie doesn’t make a practice of this so I am giving him a pass on his intentions here. There is another Texas congressman who Phil Gram said of him, “He can’t get any bills even out of committee because they are so poorly written and lack any detail as to ‘how’ to implement any of the proposals..” The questions you point out as to ‘How’ are important. With now ‘how’, it is nothing but empty words.
