Arizona’s Supreme Court Justice has agreed to enforce the Hispanic Bar Association’s demands of banning the terms “illegal” and “aliens” in all of the state’s courtrooms.
Claiming that the terms are inflammatory, the president of Arizona’s Hispanic Bar Association, (known as Los Abogados) has asked state Supreme Court Chief Justice Ruth McGregor to stop using them at trials or hearings because they create perceptions of judicial bias.
In a strongly worded letter to the chief justice, Los Abogados’ president says attaching an illegal status to a person establishes a brand of contemptibility, creates the appearance of anti-immigrant prejudice and tarnishes the image of courts as a place where disputes may be fairly resolved.
It further points out that no human being is illegal and that a national Hispanic journalism association has roundly criticized the reference for dehumanizing a segment of the population. The letter goes on to criticize the state’s High Court for using the term “illegals” in at least two opinions and the term “illegal aliens” in dozens of others.
It concludes with a list of acceptable and unacceptable terms relating to illegal immigration. Among those the group wants banned are; immigration crisis, immigration epidemic, open borders advocates, anchor babies and invaders. Among the acceptable terms are foreign nationals, unauthorized workers and human rights advocates. I;m in Phoenix tonight. For lunch, I went to a trendy yuppie restaurant with clients. About half the clientele were 50 year old businessmen with buttoned-down shirts and ties with "0bama" t-shirts over their shirts and ties.
I thought this was McJuan country!!
What are these people thinking?! Are we going to ban the words murder and rape too, because they are graphic? WTH is going on in this country?

“unsubject aliens” is my favorite.
Citizenship is granted to the children of those “subject to the jurisdiction thereof”.
They are not subject, so their children are not citizens.
I have no problem using the term “Criminal Foreign Invaders.” I’m glad that’s settled.

Well, let’s just go back to “wetbacks”.

They leave no stone unturned when it comes to the word-police.
I think I need to get myself a loud speaker.
What we are doing to ourselves regarding ILLEGAL ALIENS is equivalent to having someone walk up to us and say, “You’re breathing my air,” whereas we say, “Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll put a plastic bag over my face.”
We’re annihilating ourselves lest we offend.
I don’t blame the migrants. If I was from Mexico, where there hasn’t been a functioning economy for years, I would try to come here, too.
But we cannot possibly sustain the wave after wave of uneducated illegal immigrants pouring into the country. Half of them don’t pay taxes (paid under the table). Most of them send a lot of their money “home” (and out of our economy). When they get sick/hurt, they go to the emergency room (ERs are shutting down left and right because hospitals can’t sustain the expense). It’s a moral issue: we’re hurting OUR children.
Too bad we didn’t LOOK at Mexico’s economy and see what socialism did to theirs - and will do to ours.
In a few years, WE might be the illegal immigrants trying to get out of Obama’s disaster trying to feed our families...

This story also reminds me of the ‘great silencing’ which prevents the criticism of minorities, no matter how justified.
