I am a strong conservative who believes very strongly in a TWO-PARTY system of National Government -- MAJORITY/MINORITY -- One party leans to the left (liberal) and the other leans to the right (conservative) ---
Having said that...... I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN ! -- I AM A CONSERVATIVE .. sorry for yelling.. but so many folks just don't get it... The Republican party has selected John McCain as it's nominnee for President in 2008.. For this I am DEEPLY saddened.. John McCain is one of the most LEFT LEANING Republicans in the party.. which basicly means that the Republican Party has taken a HUGE step to left..
My analysis of the situation is simply this.. During the Primary election the conservatives in the Republican Party split their vote between several REAL conservatives who were running.. and for that we got STUCK with McCain who was able to capture the vote of the middle/left leaning Republicans...
Now having said that I am pleased to see that Sarah Palin has agreed to join the McCain ticket, and I can now vote for HER knowing that I will get McCain as a "package deal".. Which will allow the Republican Party to regroup in 2012.
I have a lot more to say but I will save it for another post if you are interested in continuing this discussion.

Duncan Hunter On Running For President
As Told To Will Englund
Monday, Sept. 1, 2008
We had a chance, I thought, a small chance, of winning this thing. I thought we had great issues to appeal to the conservative core of the Republican Party, and so we went out there and gave it everything we had, and we needed to strike a flame in this campaign, and we didn’t. We didn’t get the traction that we needed. Obviously, we were very short of money, but I have absolutely no complaints.
I won the Arizona straw poll. I won the Texas straw poll. And we weren’t able to leverage that into anywhere near the news coverage that we needed. You know, that came a month after the Iowa straw poll, and I learned one thing in Iowa: I took a position early on that I wasn’t going to pay the $35 a vote for the delegates to the Iowa straw poll. That’s a major mistake because the Iowa delegates expect to have their ways paid to the Iowa straw poll. I got 174 delegates from somebody else’s band to come vote for me. But you do have to go to that straw poll with your own delegates. And you gotta pay for them, or they’re not going to be there. And so that was a nice statement of principle that ended up resulting in 174 votes at a time when I needed in excess of a thousand votes there.
We tied McCain and Giuliani at the top in the first big straw poll held in South Carolina. But we didn’t have enough funds to leverage that showing. It was a good showing, but that meant just a brief glimmer on the major networks, and then it was gone.
You’ve got to have a structure in place to raise money. In the end, raising money’s a lot of hard work, and I simply did not have the contacts. It’s very difficult to develop contacts when you’re also being a member of Congress, and you got a day job.
Well then, let's do our damndest to get Palin elected, and hope for the future.
It's not much -- but, at last, it's something.
..thank you for the post—DH is and would have been great
I wish it were a “given” my FRiend... those who are happy with the fact that we have McCain at the top of this ticket are not “in the fight”
One interesting side note.
Seems that the people who laughed at Hunter and said he didn’t have enough name recognition are quite content to have a woman even less well known in the number two spot on the ticket.
the fact of the matter is “name recognition” means nothing in a world where true “name recognition” comes AFTER the votes are cast not before... In the PRIMARY .. .vote for the BEST candidate... period... now didn’t I say that 1000 times+ during the primary when all those folks were saying.. “WOW — Duncan Hunter IS the best candidate, but he can’t win because he does not have “name recognition”... GRRRRRR
“Seems that the people who laughed at Hunter and said he didnt have enough name recognition are quite content to have a woman even less well known in the number two spot on the ticket.”
You notice that too? I’ve also noticed the few who are rabid anti gun, anti west, anti rural (you get it) have kept their yaps zipped. That’s pleasant. There was one poster yesterday, sorry, can’t recall who, that insisted the Palins are all hicks. Until I came to FR 10 years ago, I never realized the prejudice against anything NOT big city.
And they’ll use the same propaganda the next time and the next time. McCAin did not garner 50% of the republican vote in the primaries. That’s why he needs a Palin. I’m still stunned that he picked what appears to be a conservative.
I still want to hear her speak on policy. Some good talk radio will be nice.
the real “proof” is in the fact that the best attack the left can come up with is attacking her daughter.. attacking her because she is a woman..etc...etc... I am really starting to think the left is scared to death because they have no “dirt” on her at all.... This looks to be a very entertaining camapaign
oh.. and let’s not forget a lot of the “attacks” are CORRUPT REPUBLICANS who she has stood up to in the past...
i can’t believe that out of all the kooks, you only received on moonbat call
I welcome moonbat calls :) — but I also don’t accept “annonymous” calls either... that may be the reason
i guess that your “constitution” is stronger than mine :)
lol
Sad thing is, many of those issues could have been worked on with better communication with his campaign.
Also, how much name recognition did Obama have nationally before the primary?
>>>Im still stunned that he picked what appears to be a conservative.
I think it was more pandering to through a bone to the right side.
Not a bad bone, so far, Cal.
I wish we knew what Hunter thinks of her.
Bolton likes her and she talks about McCain here:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2073277/posts
I think Hunter explains that with his mention of the ‘day job’.
Remember, he kept going back to DC to take care of business, to California for the fires.....he tried to do his job. If McCain proved anything it’s that you can’t do your job and win a national election....he was in NH for 8 years instead of on the senate floor.
