I am a strong conservative who believes very strongly in a TWO-PARTY system of National Government -- MAJORITY/MINORITY -- One party leans to the left (liberal) and the other leans to the right (conservative) ---
Having said that...... I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN ! -- I AM A CONSERVATIVE .. sorry for yelling.. but so many folks just don't get it... The Republican party has selected John McCain as it's nominnee for President in 2008.. For this I am DEEPLY saddened.. John McCain is one of the most LEFT LEANING Republicans in the party.. which basicly means that the Republican Party has taken a HUGE step to left..
My analysis of the situation is simply this.. During the Primary election the conservatives in the Republican Party split their vote between several REAL conservatives who were running.. and for that we got STUCK with McCain who was able to capture the vote of the middle/left leaning Republicans...
Now having said that I am pleased to see that Sarah Palin has agreed to join the McCain ticket, and I can now vote for HER knowing that I will get McCain as a "package deal".. Which will allow the Republican Party to regroup in 2012.
I have a lot more to say but I will save it for another post if you are interested in continuing this discussion.

My number is posted all over the net.. I do it so that folks know that it is really ME (a real person) who posted it.. I don’t hide behind screen names like many folks choose to do.. I understand why many folks use screen names, but I just prefer to speak my mind and I am not afraid to say it’s me..

Your point of the split has merit; but it isn’t that cut and dry.
I was very much involved in the elections in my state this year. More so than previous years.
In my state, all the county print outs for the primary showed more people (twice the amount) voted in the RNC primaries. So, we had more people voting for the republican nominee than we had registered republicans.
So it was more than just split.
Don’t believe him. David is nothing but a figment of our imagination.

Things sure would have been a lot easier if we had picked a conservative for the top of the ticket. Yeah I’m still saying Duncan Hunter could have easily handed Obama, Clinton, or Edwards their butts on platters. (seperately or all at once)
That said Palin is a great pick for VP.
Political extremes have little luck in the American political setup. Hence, you or I and others will never find a candidate 100% ok with us. Even Reagan was not far enough Right for the Right. So our choice, if it is to have any significant impact, is always limited to which candidate is closer to us.
Palin as a VP candidate reassures me a great deal. It shows a concern for the future of the GOP. And the fact she is a Life Member of the NRA will drive the Left into Hysterical Hurricanes of Hate.

I disagree with Conservative who whine that McCain was “selected”. He won the majority of votes in a primary process.
Conservatives need to accept responsibility for the result of the primary instead of whining like nitwit Lefitsts.
There wasn’t a strong Conservative candidate in the race. That’s why votes were split. Until Conservative governors run for President in the Republican primary, this is the result we’ll get.
Learn a lesson from McCain’s ascension and take action for the future. Otherwise, you’re doomed to the margns.
McCain won in spite of the Far Right. The plethora of fringe candidates with no chance who splintered their votes made McCain’s win almost inevitable. Paul, Hunter, Thompson, Huckabee never had a chance but them running made it certain that it would go to Romney, Guiliani or McCain.
Far Right candidates don’t win statewide offices outside of a few states much less nationally.
Sarah Palin does sweeten a very bitter deal.
McCain is the pit in the avocado.

I agree with you David. 100%.
However, we don’t have a lot of logical choices.
We vote McCain, or we vote Obama.
People say “I’ll vote third party” or “I’ll not vote”
Those are both ignorance speaking, and plainly put, stupid ideas. Not voting at all is uncalled for. Voting a third party (and I mean either democrats or republicans, liberals or conservatives) means a vote for the “Other Party”.
As you stated this is a two party system, regardless... you must vote for your PARTY. McCain is right of Obama. Left of Reagan.
Palin balances things and the best part, she’s pissing of the LEFT like you wouldn’t believe.
It’s time to step up to the plate, be a MAN (OR WOMAN!) and VOTE REPUBLICAN.
Check my previous posts in the past and you will see I’m also a STRONG Conservative, and never liked McCain. But, he’s got my vote.
