McCain won in spite of the Far Right. The plethora of fringe candidates with no chance who splintered their votes made McCain’s win almost inevitable. Paul, Hunter, Thompson, Huckabee never had a chance but them running made it certain that it would go to Romney, Guiliani or McCain.

Far Right candidates don’t win statewide offices outside of a few states much less nationally.
