I've long criticized the Single Motherhood by Choice movement for ignoring the importance of fathers and the two-parent family. Now singer Ricky Martin has decided to have motherless children. From Ricky Martin Father of Twin Boys Via Surrogate Mother (Associated Press, 8/20/08):
There won't be much "livin' la vida loca" for Ricky Martin these days -- he's now the father of twin boys.It is nice to see a father being portrayed positively, as Martin is. And I can certainly understand his hesitance to have children through marriage, since the mother could divorce him and push him to the margins of his children's lives on her whim. Nevertheless, children need mothers just like they need fathers, and the two-parent family is what's best for kids. The Latin superstar had the children via a surrogate mother, and the babies were born a few weeks ago, according to a statement from his representatives.
"The children, delivered via gestational surrogacy, are healthy and already under Ricky's full-time care," said the statement. "Ricky is elated to begin this new chapter in his life as a parent and will be spending the remainder of the year out of the public spotlight in order to spend time with his children."
A representative said there was no further information on the details of the children's birth.
Martin, 36, is a multiplatinum singer who is best known for English-language hits like "She Bangs!" and "Livin' la Vida Loca." In recent years, the Puerto Rican star has been active in charitable efforts, including the prevention of sexual exploitation of children.
I disagree with Martin's decision--children need both a mother and a father. There has been wide speculation that Martin is gay, which he denies. If he is gay, that changes the issue a bit.
Martin says, "I love women and sex. I am a real hot-blooded Puerto Rican, but have never been attracted by sex with a man."

Turkey baster!!
Very sad. Somehow we have created a situation in the US (PR is part of the US) where men and women hate each other. Regardless of whether Ricky Martin is gay or not, this is still a very dismal situation.
Hes pulling a Gayken! (Clay Aiken) What is it with these people and ordering up a kid....they are not a designer handbag....or manbag in his case....LOL!
Sad, sad shame. We are MADE to grow up with a mom and a dad. If creating your own single parent home is BETTER, we’d have started doing it millenia ago.
If he wanted to be a single parent there are many children in orphanages and in our foster care system that are in need of a home.
Yeah, Ricky wouldn’t want to actually have real SEX WITH A REAL WOMAN!.
It would probably be to scary and “icky” for him.
Sissy poofter boy.
Maybe he’s afraid any woman he marries and has children with will eventually cheat on him, make him miserable, take his kids and then spend the rest of her life scheming to get at his money.
Isn’t it true, that this is the only way that a male in the current ‘legal’ environment can actually guaratee that his children will in fact be his own and not risk having them taken away from him, possibly held for ransom by the design of the other parent? Point of information. ‘Turkey baster’ means ‘gay’, right?
I know people sometimes lose their mothers young, but to never really have one, legally.
I don't care how much money he has or how many nannies he hires. These kids are going to grow up feeling there is something missing, something irreplaceable.
No fault divorce, courts stacked against men and fathers, and increasingly insane women whom no man in their right mind would want to live with: these things are not helping.
And then again, maybe Ricky's just gay.
I know nothing about this Ricky character, just that the way things are going this sort of thing doesn’t really surprise me.
He really should have gotten a puppy instead.

And yet, stupid men continue to marry and/or father children with these insane women. What’s up with that?

I adopted four siblings out of foster care, because I believed that God had called me to do so (never wanting to be a single mother at ALL!). The children pray for a “husband/daddy” every single day, and I believe that God’s man is on the way for us. I homeschool all four as well, but that’s another thread.
Never would I believe God would call me to create life as a single parent the way this singer has done. I think that is a perversion of the way God set up families to be created biologically. Creating twin boys (I’ll bet he paid extra $$$$ for doctors to ensure they were boys — it CAN be done) as a single dad with no mother to whom they need to attach / bond from day one of birth (let alone breastfeeding) is sickening.
Just because it CAN be done medically doesn’t mean it SHOULD be done. I have friends who can’t have babies of their own, so instead of adopting children who need to find families to love them, they “adopt embryos” left over from couples going through IVF, and have another couple’s embryos implanted into the wife so she can be the “birth mother” without being the “biological mother”. Disgusting. I would never tell them so, but it is perverse, especially for Christians. They actually keep in touch with the “biological family” of these adopted embryos they give birth to, and their “created children” are forced to grow up having relationships with them as “extended family”.
Yuck.....but then, I guess some would criticize ME for adopting four sibling orphans as a single mother also. I view it as entirely different, and I make no apologizes whatsoever for our unique and special family.
Hollyweird gets stranger every day, with how they view the reproductive process as “trendy”.
By ‘insane women’ I’m pointing to Code Pinks and the women coming out of today’s universities.
Well, if a man impregnates a woman based simply on her measurments and looks then, he gets what he gets.
There's two sides to that coin.
But still, some stupid men marry them or have children with them, yes? If men (and women) would be much more careful about who they slept with and married, there would be much less trouble for them when it comes to child custody issues.
