Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In it's fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life.
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components.

In my view of Islam, which I have been describing for the last 44 years (since the "palestinians were invented") the description is biological gunpowder. Three essential ingredients, all of which are necessary or it ceases to be as powerful or as dangerous, indeed it becomes something else.

It is a religion, it is a social system and it is a political system.
In my view, the political component encompasess the legal, economic and military aspects of the culture, the umma.

It is utterly and permanently incompatible with Democracy or any representative form of government.

That's why it can never change, it can only be wiped out completely, or it becomes "something else."

I'm going to get clobbered for saying this (and I'm not defending islam), but G-d is "totalitarian." The problem with human totalitarianism is that it trespasses on what should be a Divine monopoly.

If you read the Hebrew Bible you will see that Judaism is not merely a religion but a 100% life system with legal and military components.

The separation of "religion" from the rest of life is a profound error that we are paying for 2000 years after it was first suggested ("render unto Caesar").

Islam's problem is simply that it's the wrong religion.
