Islam is evil, created by a nutcase that people in villages in his time ran him out of town and his own family killed him.
Most pre-modern religions encompassed culture and government. Your average Christian in the 16th Century for example thought laws against heresy were perfectly good and normal.
I believe though that not all religions are created equal...some are truer than others. I also think God has shown Himself in history—and communicated with humans—and this through the bible and ultimately Jesus Christ.
If you look at the history of Islam, being created in the 7th Century—what was the main religious thing happening then? The most remarkable thing was the fall of paganism to Christianity. Various forms of polytheism were being abandoned in a wholesale manner—and had been at least since the 2nd Century. Scholars estimate by say AD 180, 1/3 of the Roman Empire was Christian... Think about that...by the time of the movie “Gladiator” fully a third of the Empire was believing what began as a very small, monotheistic sect, organized around an executed(and yes, resurrected!) man. Truly remarkable.
The only social/cultural/religious group, before Mohamed, which didn’t quickly embrace the faith of the Christians were—the Jews. That faction that gave Jesus such a hard time, the Pharisees, after the Temple was destroyed in AD 70, became the leading (and really only surviving)faction leading Judaism up into the 19th Century.
Anyway, back the AD 600s... It was a strict law-based monotheism which alone had resisted Christianity—but of course in a small, peaceful, persecuted minority of Judaism. Hence, after Rome fell, what did the conquering Arabs develop...to rival (and make them immune) from their major cultural/religious opponent? A strict, law-based monotheism (or really monadism), of course!
Islam is nothing but a cobbled together imitation of 7th Century Judaism, with many pagan and a few Christian elements thrown in.
Since the author above is largely right—it’s much bigger than a mere religion—it seems impregnable. However, I believe the violence of contemporary Islam is because it is in its death rattle....and will not last the centuries.
