Iran Looking Forward to New U.S. President Reestablishing Embassy
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 7 July 2008 | John Semmens

Posted on 07/09/2008 3:27:31 PM PDT by John Semmens

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says his government is hoping that a President Obama will reestablish a U.S. diplomatic presence in his country.

“The absence of a U.S. Embassy reduces the ability of our government to effectively communicate with the U.S. government,” Mottaki asserted. “The present arrangement is no substitute for the face-to-face interaction we enjoyed when Jimmy Carter was the U.S. president.”

The United States has not had a formal diplomatic presence in Iran since the embassy was overrun by Iranian “students” and the staff taken hostage in 1979. Since that time, the Swiss Embassy has represented U.S. interests in Tehran.

Mottaki characterized the U.S. severing of diplomatic relations in 1979 as an “over reaction to an attempt by exuberant youths to experiment with unconventional methods of communication between our two peoples. None of these so-called hostages were harmed. All were released unconditionally in 1981. It’s time we called a truce.”

“We are hoping that Senator Obama will be more understanding of our point of view,” Mottaki offered. “His father was Muslim. Maybe that will give him a better perspective on how we think and feel.”

He’s hoping Obama will speed up the spread of Islam in the U.S.

One of these "exuberant youth" is now Iran's president, who calls for the death of Israel and is working to make Iran nuclear.

What is frightening is that Obama is naive enough to buy this line of garbage.

Yesterday, they launched a bunch of test missiles and said if attacked, they would wipe Israel and the US off the map.
But today, they are asking us to open up a new embassy.
This country is more bi-polar than my ex-gf who was one minute crying about how much she loved me, and then the next hurling objects at me in total meltdown mode.

Er, when did this happen? When did Obama get voted in as US President?
It seems that the whole world is predisposed to the fact that Obama will be the next US President! Seems conspirical!

Has that ever been accepted by the US Government — that Ahmedinijad was one of the ‘students’ that stormed the US Embassy & precipitated the Iranian Hostage Crisis? I thought the pictures looked pretty convincing.

Well, we HAD an embassy there once. It didn't turn out so well for us. Why on Earth would we want to go down THAT road again? They've now spent 30 plus years thumbing their noses at us, supporting groups that kill our citizens, directly supporting the killing of American troops and then have the balls to call for ‘a truce’.

We should have stuck their crappy attitude up their you know what long, long ago.

Frankly I hope our failure to deal with them effectively over the last 30 years has made them bold enough to think they can get away with their dilly dally approach to working with the rest of the world on nuclear weapons. I would think it a real shame if after all we've had to put up with from those jerks they changed their ways.

I for one don't care if the rest of the world likes us or not. I much prefer them to know and understand that we are going to act in our own best interest first and foremost. If we can do that and they get some benefit from it, good for them. But it's time we get our toe out of the sand, our hat out of our hand and act in our own best interest.

They are never as quiet or well-behaved as they are when they fear we have a cowboy for President. You bet your sweet ass they want Obama to be our next President. The mere fact they support him is reason enough for me to vote against him!

I don’t think it is officially stated, but the White House has spoken to it before:

International

US not surprised if Ahmedinejad was part of ‘79 siege

REUTERS

WASHINGTON, JULY 1 It would not be a surprise to the United States if Iranian President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was involved in the 1979 siege of the US Embassy in Tehran, although no solid evidence has been found, the White House said on Friday.

Several Americans who were held hostage then, said they recognised Ahmadinejad as a ringleader. But two Iranians who were leading figures in the storming of the embassy said he did not take part.

‘‘We continue to look into it to establish the facts. I don’t think it should be surprising if it turns out to be true. This is a regime run by an unelected few that only allowed its handpicked candidates to run in an election well short of free and fair,” said White House spokesman Scott McClellan

They can’t wait for Jimmuh Carter II to open an embassy there so they can have fun with it again.

Okay, John, true satire needs to be (a) plausible and yet (b) still fictional. I think their minds, such as they are, actually do work that way.

Kinda cuts down on the number of hostages you can take as well.
