Pat Buchanan: Hitler Didn't Plan to Kill the Jews
Little Green Footballs ^ | 6-20-08 | Charles Johnson

Hey, way to go, Townhall.com. Why not publish Pat Buchanan’s Holocaust revisionism? After all, he’s a real conservative, isn’t he?

Retch.

Townhall.com::Was the Holocaust Inevitable?::By Patrick J. Buchanan.

I’ve removed Townhall.com from our list of news sources. This is appalling.

UPDATE at 6/20/08 9:39:59 am:

The article has been deleted, but the print version is still online.

Hey, Townhall — more Krauthammer, less Buchanan!

I second the motion! Better yet, replace him with Mark Steyn. Krauthammer can sometimes go off the conservative reservation.

Regarding Nazi intentions, here’s an article published in the Nazi newspaper in 1920:

Olbermann and Buchanan BOTH present the identical leftist delusional stereotype of the slavering nazi conservative, but by different means. Olbermann advocates and accuses, while Buchanan illustrates and exemplifies. They are equally foul.

Pat’s penchent for trying to explain Hitler, has rendered him a big fat zero on the scale of 0 to 100, regarding whether he is a person to be listened to any longer or not.

Just damn Pat. When in doubt put a sock in it. Sadly, this guy has no doubt. And so I no longer have any either.

Any network or news organization that would defile itself with Pat’s rantings, will now taint itself in my eyes, and the eyes of most of the U.S. public. Enough is enough!

Way to destroy yourself Pat. At least there’s one thing for which you still remain an expert.

“That Hitler was a rabid anti-Semite is undeniable. “Mein Kampf” is saturated in anti-Semitism. The Nuremberg Laws confirm it. But for the six years before Britain declared war, there was no Holocaust, and for two years after the war began, there was no Holocaust.

Not until midwinter 1942 was the Wannsee Conference held, where the Final Solution was on the table.”

Hitler and his goons were gearing up for the Holocaust the whole time. They practiced their gassing techniques on the mentally disabled. I thought the point of the Wannsee Conference was to come up with or put into action a plan to transport and kill Jews even faster.

Despite my dislike of the man, Pat Buchanan's analysis is correct in some respects.
Clearly, much of the fault for WWI rests with France. Not that the Kaiser was not irresponsible (as he certainly was) but the French refusal to accept the settlement of 1871 was the cause of European instability. If France had been willing to live with the loss of Alsasc-Lorraine, then many of the other problems facing Europe could have been solved.
And Buchanan is correct to opine that the outbreak of war gave Hitler the opportunity to unleash his murderous intentions. If the British and French had acted when Germany reoccupied the Rhineland, Hitler's regime might have ended then and there. But the real fault for WWII rests with Stalin. If he had not supported the fourth partition of Poland, Hitler would not have invaded - and the millions of Jews that lived in eastern Europe would not have come under Hitler's control.
All statesmen in Europe acted irresponsibly in the first half of the Twentieth Century and those from the US are no exception. The seminal error of the Twentieth Century remains the US intervention in WWI. If the US had remained outside, the war might have ended by negotiation.

Assuming the correctness of your assertions, they still do not back up Buchanan’s thesis - that World War II and the Holocaust could have been avoided were it not for British meddling.

Most of the commenters above do not seem to know much WWII history.

The Holocaust was invoked only when Germany began to lose the war. Psychologists would call this an example of displacement, like hitting a table when angry but unable to hit the boss. The Jews were hated, but their extermination was enacted only when Hitler found himself helpless against the allies. That is why it seems so unnatural, and why Hitler is called a madman.

But Hitler was not a madman. He was a hater, an eccentric, an egotist, and many other things, but not a madman. If you believe that he was a madman, then you should take the view that in a court he could be excused for his crimes because of insanity. I would not take that view: I would say that he could be tried, very simply, as a murderer — and under simple German law, not for some novel reason, like “genocide.” Just try him for simple murder.

See #14.

All that's worthwhile on Fox is Brit Hume and a few of the guests.

What do you call a network that employs (of has employed) Geraldo Rivera, Greta van Sustern, Alan Colmes, Shep Smith, Wesley Clarke, Bill O'Reilly...

Fox is only worthwhile in comparison to the hard-left ABCBSCNNMSNC juggernaut.

Pat has a point about the First World War. The Kaiser's Germany wasn't trying to take over the world. They weren't exactly peacelike either. But just what the US should have done in 1917 isn't by any means clear.

I don't think anyone would dispute that Hitler hated Jews. But extermination became a possibility for him only when he controlled enough of Europe and when he couldn't get anything for the Jews he held hostage.

It doesn't make him a nice guy, and we don't have the responsibility for the Holocaust, but there was a connection between our entry into the war and what happened. That doesn't mean that we should have stayed out, though we could have given more thought as to what was going on and what we could do about it.

I really have little idea (about your historical judgments) because I know too little to opine. I do remember forming a rather strong opinion that the Versailles Treaty was far too punitive against Germany and helped fuel Hitler’s rise. That’s about it for me; too many gaps in my knowledge.

He would be out in 15 years.

What do I call it? How ‘bout Fair and Balanced. What would you suggest they do, have nothing but Right Wingers? True, I don't care for a lot of those you mention but having all lefties or all righties is a loser.

“This Jewish contamination will not subside, this poisoning of the nation will not end, until the carrier himself, the Jew, has been banished from our midst.” - Adolf Hitler 8 August 1920 NSDAP meeting.

“If I am ever really in power, the destruction of the Jews will be my first and most important job. As soon as I have power, I shall have gallows after gallows erected, for example, in Munich on the Marienplatz-as many of them as traffic allows. Then the Jews will be hanged one after another, and they will stay hanging until they stink. They will stay hanging as long as hygienically possible. As soon as they are untied, then the next group will follow and that will continue until the last Jew in Munich is exterminated. Exactly the same procedure will be followed in other cities until Germany is cleansed of the last Jew!” - Adolf Hitler in a conversation with Josef Hell 1922.

“Europe cannot find peace until the Jewish question has been solved. …One thing I should like to say on this day [the sixth anniversary of his being appointed Chancellor of the Reich] which may be memorable for others as well as for us Germans. In the course of my life I have very often been a prophet and have usually been ridiculed for it. … Today I will once more be a prophet: if the international Jewish financiers in and outside Europe should succeed in plunging the nations once more into a world war, then the result will not be the Bolshivization of the earth, and thus the victory of Jewry, but the annihilation of the Jewish race in Europe.” - Adolf Hilter, Reichstag speech 30 Jan. 1939.

Didn’t take me much time to find these quotes. And I didn’t even look at Mein Kampf.

Buchanan, you are full of crap or stupid. I think both honestly.

So, if we had only lost the war, everything would have been fine?

The Nazis always wanted to exterminate the Jews, they were just waiting for the right time. It is a measure of their hatred that they would waste precious resources on the holocaust rather than on defending the fatherland.
