McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

I cut my affiliation months ago. I am now a conservative only.

I might as well have done so after the Iowa caucus, but didn't realize just how corrupt the GOP had become at the top, or just how little people like me actually mattered.

If this is true, look for more of this in states where McCain isn’t doing well. That could certainly turn out to be a very very bad thing.

I had no respect for Huck before this and now..

As a Baptist, I am embarrassed of Mike Huckabee.

In connection with his politics, he stands against everything I was taught in Sunday School and Church.

Backroom deals. Sleezy deals with a foul mouthed man (McCain) who has no value for Christians.

Until today, I was reluctant to accuse Huckabee of being a bad Christian.

Now I'm not so sure.

Agreed. As I said in that post:
There is no doubt now...it is out in the open...that McCain will and is colluding with Huckabee to deny Rommney any success wherever he can.

I am hoping that most conservatives will be soured by this backroom political action that reeks of collusion and manipulation...and that it will backfire on them as conservatives vote against it...today.

“collusion”

Yes, that’s what I just called it, too.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1965444/posts?page=43#43

If what is going on with McCain/Huckabee is as it appears so far, it’s almost a coup de tat. They and the media have certainly destroyed/stole this election process. I’m stunned there are so many people who support it.

The best thing about Mitt Romney is that he is scandal free.
None of the petty, naughty stuff the press can exploit, and the public can understand, unlike McCain/Huckabee. Just think what they’ll do with Keating, the temper, the throw away wife, etc. And Huck...being sued for destroying records, a son who tortures puppies and takes guns to airports, phony gift registers, Tyson, etc, etc.

From CBS Evening News, Feb. 4, 2008. “Mike Huckabee has been subjected to the millions of dollars of attack ads by Mitt Romney.....I think He’s a very good and decent man and I admire him. And I admire his humor and I think he’s elevated the entire presidential debate and campaign.”

That was the answer given when Katie Couric asked what the shortcomings of Huckabee were. The answer was quite the contrast to the same question about Mitt Romney. And who was giving this praise to Huck?

JOHN McCAIN! He went on to attack Romney with the usual unqualified sound bites and insulted Rick Santorum as a ‘defeated candidate’ who had no right to question his temper.

If a real conservative is one who won't vote for a liberal, there's plenty to reject.

Aint that the truth.

Corrupt Bargain??

You do realize this is how the Constitution works dont you...if no majority is reached in the Electoral College...then it goes to the House.

If a candidate wants to make a deal to support another candidate to prevent another from winning..thats all fine and dandy. Politics isn’t fair..never has been fair..

Quit whining like a Democrat...

Slick Willard certainly was the one outsmarted, even though I was given specific assurances that he’s the smartest guy in any room.

What McCain giveth Cain taketh.... and yet everybody misses the slight of hand.

I was undecided until I saw this vote in wv. Why is Huck supporting McCain? Where is he getting the money? Where is McCain getting the money? Both have claimed poverty. How and why if Huck is impoverished, does he stay in the race?

Well, whether you support him or not, it was clever. We don’t want an idiot as president. Good strategery.

Here are some other reasons why we need to defeat McCain:

1. Wants to Close Gitmo. This would be counterproductive to our war on terror and endanger US citizens when these terrorists are given US Constitutional rights as US prisoners.

2. Against Water boarding. If McCain does not have the stomach to have the mastermind behind 9/11 aggressively interrogated, he should not have the power to send our soldiers into battle. This guy is more concerned about what the elite media and the socialists of Europe think of us than what the US military and citizens think.

3. Wants Trade Caps. McCain admits a limited knowledge of economics, as a 27-year Washington insider, and his support of this in the last debate will KILL JOBS.

4. Wants Carbon Taxes. This is another job killer based on the hoax of global warming. Raising taxes on businesses ALWAYS results in economic problems because businesses — the entities that create jobs — have to cut personnel, overhead and expansion to pay for the bogus taxes and stay profitable.

5. Admits Ignorance of Economics. See the previous two bullets as evidence of this. Romney has run businesses efficiently and he can bring that expertise to cut government and save taxpayer money.

6. Possible Kerry VP. McCain’s only allegiance is to McCain, not the American people. He is selfish and he demonstrated that in South Carolina when he said ‘it’s my turn.’

7. McAmnesty. The unenforceable provisions of the McCain / Kennedy bill would have amounted to a flood of millions of low-skilled workers from south of the border who see this as a free ride. There is no way that the government could collect $3000 from the 12-20 millions who are already here. To believe this is to have false faith in the efficiency of government. If you don’t secure the border first, there is nothing to stop millions of low-skilled workers from turning our nation into Mexico Norte.

8. Social Security for Illegals. This is another part of McAmnesty that shows McCain’s economic ignorance. The system has be turned over to the individuals who have been paying into it so they can use their money as they wish. Accepting illicit funds from illegals who have used stolen SSNs is not the way to fix social security.

9. Seriously Considered Leaving GOP. Again, it’s McCain’s way or the highway and I suspect that he’d be a democrat if he thought he could get elected as one. This was recently documented in an article on Politico.com.

10. Against Energy Independence. McCain is against drilling in ANWR and this keeps us more dependent upon foreign nations for our energy supply. This is unacceptable.

11. He voted against the Bush tax cuts. Even moderate democrats voted with Bush on the tax cuts that helped spur the economy in the wake of 9/11. The only other republican who voted with McAmnesty was Lincoln Chafee. Both guys should have their portraits in the RINO hall of shame.

12. Mainstream Media Favorite. The New York Times endorsed McCain and all TV networks love this guy because he attacks conservatives at every turn.

13. Phony Conservative Record. McCain’s “83% American Conservative Union rating is ONLY on pro-life votes, which is good but it does not tell the whole story. The fact that McCain / Fiengold attacked free speech and pro-life at the SAME TIME! Just ask the Wisconsin right-to-life folks (see link below). McCain’s OVERALL rating was 65%

When pressed to answer a question about illegal immigrants in his home state, Sen. McCain refuses to answer, while his supporters tell a woman who wants him to answer the question to shut up and she is thrown out of the town hall meeting. See the video here:
