Why must the Republican Party nominate a 72-year-old grandfather from the Gulf Coast of Texas, until the past few months little known outside his district, as its 2008 standard-bearer? Very simple: the alternative is eight years of President Hillary Clinton. That ought to be enough to get the attention of every conservative who happens upon these words, so let me explain.
It should come as no big revelation to anyone inside or outside of the Republican Party that the GOP has lost touch with its conservative roots. Massive deficit spending that would make Bill Clinton or Jimmy Carter blush; foreign adventurism beyond the wildest dreams of Woodrow Wilson or Teddy Roosevelt; more big government programs than FDR or LBJ (Google Medicare expansion for a massive example) ... the Republican Party of the early 21st century is clearly not your fathers or grandfathers GOP.
There are no more Robert Tafts, no more Barry Goldwaters, not even any more Ronald Reagans (as imperfect as he turned out to be after reaching the White House) ... except one: Ron Paul. Dr. Paul (an OB/GYN who has delivered more than 4,000 babies) is the last, best hope for the GOP to reclaim its once-upon-a-time status as the party of limited government.

The yutz of a writer even sent this to my local news website at a LTTE...

even has his email listed :)
I’m with you on that one. I’d hold my nose and vote for Giuliani, I’d support Romney, I’d enthusiastically support Thompson.
I’d vote 3rd Party rather than vote for Ron Paul.
H
Robert Taft: fake conservative and opponent of the Nuremberg Trials.
Barry Goldwater: bedwetting loser in 1964 who became a bedwetting liberal.
Ronald Reagan: one of the truly great American Presidents. But imperfect to the drooler who wrote this article.
When I watch Dr. Paul, I don’t see Barry Goldwater but George McGovern. A decent, honorable man whose worldview is just plain looney.
Who is Ron Paul?
Well said.
I always laugh at those asserting Robert Taft was such a great stateman. Being from Ohio, perhaps because I know better.
I can’t think of a family that has done more harm here than the Tafts.
If you change the “Ron Paul” to “Duncan Hunter”....then you have a great article
Why? So we can set a new record for a Democrat landslide in a presidential election?
Why? So we can be laughed off the stage in a presidential debate?
My cats could beat Ron Paul in a landslide.
Vote Dulcie-Finbar 2008!
There are a couple of Republican candidates that if they win the nomination I will hold my nose and vote for them. I currently refer to them as Democrat Lite and I think they are just better than the alternative.
Ron Paul does not even fall into that catagory. He is so far removed on logical fiscal policy, and he is plain daft on his approach towards our current military deployments and commitments. There’s just no way that I could in good conscience vote for this guy.
What Universe are these Paul whackos living in?
Not in this life, the man is certifiable.
Look for next week’s column, “Why everyone should put their tongue in a shredder.”
wishful thinking on the part of a lefty?
