Sen. Craig ... & Why Innocent People Plead Guilty. Plus A Poll On If You Think He's Guilty.
Needs Of The Many ^

Posted on 08/31/2007 12:44:35 PM PDT by vaper69

Now that you've heard the audio of Sen. Craig's interrogation ... do you believe he's innocent, or guilty? Take the poll at the top right of this page.

I've been talking about this the past couple of days on my show, and found that many people now believe Craig to be innocent after I played the interrogation for them. For me the most important part is what is said in the first 1 1/2 minutes.

From the beginning Craig proclaims his innocence, but expresses that he does not want to fight the cop in court, and he must make that flight. The cop makes it very clear that if he pleads guilty this will go away quietly, and he won't contact the media.

I heard a former policeman on the radio today, who's son also happens to work in a DA's office.

He said Sen. Craig should not have been arrested for anything. It is not a crime to proposition anyone for sex, even a homosexual proposition is not a crime unless the "offended" party wishes to sue for sexual harrassment.

He cannot be arrested or charged with solicitation if no money was exchanged or even discussed.

Technically while asking a stranger for sex in a public bathroom may rank highly on the "icckkk!!! scale" it's not really a crime.

According to the former cop.

I don't "think" Larry Craig is "guilty or not guilty." I have worked with him on conservative issues (mostly the Balanced Budget Amendment) over a span of 25 years. I saw several, non-dispositive indications that he was homosexual. This incident in Minneapolis settles the equation for me.

I conclude that Craig is either homosexual or bisexual (I don't consider the difference between those to be dispositive). He seeks anonymous sex in situations that are deliberately dangerous. Meantime, he pretends to be a "family-oriented" conservative guy.

I know that Craig should be out of government as soon as possible. I also know that Democrats are hypocrites, in keeping their bums in public office while pointing fingers at Republicans. So what? We know that Democrats have lower standards than Republicans. That doesn't mean that Republicans should lower their standards to match the Democrats.

Craig is a bum. Craig should be outta there. Neither this nor any other poll changes that basic conclusion.

Seems there’s been more than one of this type of charge against him over the years. If it walks like a duck.

Well I think he should leave. But I already thought that, he’s been there long enough. But the whole arrest stinks of entrapment.

Where does Barney Frank find his “dates”? In bath houses? What’s the difference? Did Craig break a law? Did the cop have a quota to deliver? In view of the timing of this, I suspect it is part of a dirty leftist conspiracy!

I'm still trying to figure out what he's guilty of.

Not a word was said between the two of them. I guess "footsies is illegal" but oral sex in the West Wing with an intern half your age is A okay!!

I think the cop entraped and harassed the Senator.

This can only happen in a police state with thought crimes.

I am sure, because of some factors in Craig's background (some of which have never come out), that Craig was doing what he had done before. He was cruising for anonymous, "dangerous" sex in a public place.

He was not entrapped. His participation was deliberate. And what is happening to him now, could have and should have happened decades ago. This is a long-time habit of his.

I think less of you for what you have posted today. You claim prior knowledge which was ambiguous. But somehow this incident, with all its problems, turns you into an executioner. I wouldn’t want a congressman who is more interested in rendering a verdict than in preserving and defending the constitution.

How could it be entrapment? he was in an airport men's room known to be a cruising post for homosexuals. The only way it could be entrapment is if you knew that he'd be likely to hit that particular men's room. BTW...it was a fair hike to this men's room and he had to walk right past the one at his gate to get there.

As an Officer I have been involved in enforcement operations like this sting Senator Craig was caught up in. The State Laws and local Ordinances will vary in different States and then refined more in different County and City Ordinances.

I read the transcript of the interview, and the interviewer did not conduct a good interview at all. I don't know all the story of what happened, just what was discussed in that lousy interview.

Based only on the points in the interview, in my State, and County, this would not be prosecutable at all. No one exposed themselves, no one agreed to sexual conduct. I was expecting something else in the interview, the Senator touched his shoe to the Officer's shoe, and put his hand under the stall wall. I cant speak for their laws and statutes, but that would not be near enough for an offense where I live and work.

Fox News is now reporting that Larry Craig is announcing his resignation from the Senate, tomorrow. Do you think that he would be resigning unless he actually was, exactly as I said, a liar and a hypocrite?

There is no constitutional issue present in Craig's situation. The kind of arrest made here has been reviewed by courts at the highest level, and approved. When the impulse comes from the person arrested, not the officer, that is NOT entrapment. (Though you did not say so, I surmise that that's your concern here.)

Though I disagree with you, based on decades of experience, I fully support your right to believe and speak the exact opposite. That IS a constitutional right.
