I was invited to attend a Duncan Hunter fundraising event in Houston yesterday. Pat Gray from KSEV Radio was the emcee, and did a great job. I was fortunate, and honored, to meet Congressman Hunter before the event started. Someone in the small group I was standing in asked him about New Orleans and the re-building efforts there. The Congressman had just finished a trip to New Orleans along with Clinton and Edwards. One phrase that stuck out at me was, I honestly believe in the people of New Orleans helping the people of New Orleans. Its times like that you know you have a true Conservative as your candidate. Congressman Hunter was as impressive in person as he is on television and radio.
The event soon started and Pat Gray introduced Congressman Ted Poe to say a few words about Duncan and the kind of man he is. Ted Poe said, When it gets tough in the House, we go to Duncan Hunter to get things done. Duncan is not afraid to take a position and its an honor to be here with him. Pat introduced Congressman Hunter by discussing our choices for President in 2008. His message in regards to Duncan Hunter: Now is the time to not pick the lesser of two evils but use our primaries to nominate a candidate for President who represents our traditional Conservative values as Americans who believe-in and love their country.
Congressman Hunter was characteristically gracious to everyone there. He began by talking to us about the wrongfully imprisoned Border Agents Ramos and Compean and his legislation to pardon them, along with Ted Poes amendment to de-fund their incarceration which Hunter signed-on to enthusiastically. Both Congressmen spoke in great detail about the ongoing case with the two Agents. We learned the appeals are just now being filed. We also learned from Pat breaking news that the drug dealer who is the prosecutions only witness now has two commercial trucking licenses. The same criminal who has been caught at least twice with hundreds of pounds of illegal drugs can now use his trucking licenses to bring loads and loads of drugs into our country to poison your children. If elected, Hunter will pardon the Agents and prosecute the drug dealer.
The border fence. Hunter told us there is 800 million dollars in cash allocated for building the border fence, waiting to be used. 300 miles could be built now. As President, Hunter promised to build all 854 miles of fencing, with 400 miles of it in Texas, in six months. He is the only candidate who has any experience with borders and fencing. He is the man who got the fence built in San Diego, and he is the only one who has any credibility on this issue. His commitment to the border fence is encouraging to say the least.
Hunter spoke at length about keeping production at home. He gave us some startling examples of the damage that has been done by allowing other countries to control production of important materials such as: only one company in America can produce steel plating for the type of armor our soldiers require. He gave another example of the Swiss, who produce the guidance device for our bombs, and have cut-off that production because they dont like our foreign policy. As President he vows to bring our production back home to America where it belongs instead of in the hands of foreign entities who dont have our best interests at heart and would do us harm.
The Congressman also spoke in detail about the threat we face from China both economically and militarily. Hunter reported to us that China is building hard-to-track missiles that can reach our soil and that of our allies. He declared that China is now our banker and could paralyze American foreign policy. Chinas recent destruction of one of their satellites ushered in a new era of competition between our two countries. China is arming and as President Hunter said, I will stop China from cheating on trade.
As a side-note; Duncan Hunters son, a Marine in Afghanistan, has done two tours in Iraq and is running for Congress in Californias 52nd District. If elected, Duncan Hunters son will be the first member of Congress to have combat experience in the current Iraq War. Duncan Hunter has an impressive family to say the least.
Here are some quotes by Congressman Hunter from last night:
On refineries in America
Shortage of refineries have driven up the price of gasoline. It takes more time to license a new refinery than it did to win WW2. Again, we must keep production in our country.
On foreign consulates dictating policy in our country
When appropriate; just say No. A lot of the anti-Americanism you see is for consumption back home
On deporting illegal aliens
Follow the law and people will have to go home
we deport people all the time
we spend blood and resources in other countries so people can go home.
Mexico needs one thing; a modicum of freedom. It is incumbent on these people to make their country work.
It's safe to say that Duncan Hunter has my vote for President of the United States.
More reason why Duncan Hunter is the best candidate.
B4DH!
It’s been far too long since we had a man of principle in the white house and Hunter is the only one running.
I love Duncan Hunter. I’m thinking now that he would be able to serve his country best by being our next Secretary of Defense or Vice President. That would position him well for the next presidential election.
I’m driving around with his bumper sticker on my SUV - telling people who he is when they ask - “Who’s Duncan Hunter?”. I think he is best qualified for the job, but I’m sad to say that what he is doing now is getting his name out there for a cabinet position when Fred Thompson wins. Having said that -
GO DUNCAN HUNTER!!!
“Shortage of refineries have driven up the price of gasoline. It takes more time to license a new refinery than it did to win WW2. Again, we must keep production in our country. “
Some friends and I were just talking about gas prices and refineries last night. Here in N.D. we are paying $3.25/gal for gas and according to the news that is highest in the country. We need to fast track the approval of more refineries. We also need to tell the envirowackos to go to hell.
This was a great event. I was there and he spoke about refineries in response to my question. What great man.
I don’t believe there is another candidate in the race who is even in his league in terms of depth or stature.
He’s been the best candidate, with Tom Tancredo running a close second.
“This was a great event. I was there and he spoke about refineries in response to my question. What great man.”
Thanks for bringing that up. We need the energy issue front and center. That is as important to national security as anything.
You are right about DH, no one else even comes close(top tier) in terms of conservative credentials.
“Im driving around with his bumper sticker on my SUV “
Good for you!
And writing a letter to the editor in your home town newspapers will reach thousands of readers, to help Duncan Hunter become our president in 2008!
I’ve read that readers read editor’s letters more than any other part of the newspaper, and Duncan Hunter suggests that we write editor’s letters on his website, so he also realizes that this helps (if enough of us will do it).
And that my friends, is the bottom line!
I’ve been supporting Tanc and Hunter for quite some time and agree with you that these two are outstanding individuals.
I think they both deserve a round of applause for keeeping the issues they feel deeply about in the forefront of the debates and I hope they both can land a job in the new FRedministration come ‘09...ICE or DHS and SecOfDef if not a VP slot!
Yup. I’ve had my bumper sticker for at least two months and got a letter to the editor promoting Duncan Hunter in my local newspaper a week and a half ago, plus a mention in a weekly local newspaper.
Hey Raster! Has anyone a report of Rep. Hunter’s address to Texas Christian University yesterday?
Good read. Go Hunter!

PLEASE write a letter to your editors about your opinion. and include his website.
Thank you.
I wish I’d known that Mr. Hunter was going to be in New Orleans. I might have tried to go see him.
The other challenge for North Dakota is that the onshore production to supply those refineries isn't what it once was. If the crude must be transported long distances to reach those refineries, your gas prices will remain high. On the other hand, if they ever produce much oil from the oil shale in Colorado, the supply will be there to support a refinery. Of course, producing from oil shale is going to be more expensive anyway, so that will keep the prices from dropping to what they once were.

Hunter made an excellent speech in NOLA. Completely hit it out of the park.
