Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) says that a study titled The Fox News Effect: Media Bias and Voting, by Steano Della Vigna of the University of California at Berkeley and Ethan Kaplan, of Stockholm University, supports his contention that legislation is needed to level the playing field of American politics.
The study asserts that the Fox News network influenced enough voters in to the 2000 presidential race to throw the election to Bush. According to the study, the vote shift from Gore to Bush due to Fox News was 10,757 votes in Florida. This was larger than Bushs 537 vote margin of victory.
We cannot allow biased reporting of the news to decide the outcome of elections, Kucinich said. We have to restore the Fairness Doctrine so we get balance in talk radio and at Fox News--like there is in the rest of the media.
Representative Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.) and Senator Bernie Sanders (S-Vermont) are sponsoring the Media Ownership Reform Act (MORA) as a vehicle for restoring the Fairness Doctrine. Under this bill, if Rush Limbaugh shoots his mouth off, he must give equal access to our side, Hinchey said. The American public will begin to get both sides or all sides of an issue. That is basic fundamental to a democracy.
Critics have dubbed the bill the Hush Rush Law. But Hinchey contends his bill is even-handed. The right-wingers over at CBS, NBC, and the rest will all be required to give access to our side, Hinchey insisted. Government control over what the media says is the only way we can head-off a fascist takeover of America.

A little too close to the truth.
FoxNews is the network that broke the Bush Drunk Driving story. The democrats are trying to RE-define "center" as being far right.
Scary, isn't it? ...and me about ready to tell Dennis where to go.
Politicians like him make me glad to have left Ohio.
Good Lord. Who are the idiots who vote for these people?
Democrats.
Now the democrats are trying to legislate a victory? Can't these mentally ill creeps do ANYTHING without government help?
Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
AZ Conservative.
It's parody.
Right wingers at CBS,NBC???? I wish he could name one.
Nicely written, although it cut a little close to the knuckle for the good of my blood pressure. The unFairness Doctrine isn't dead by any means, and under Empress Hillary we might very well have FR having to offer half our bandwidth to Kucinich and his Merry Gnomes From Planet Zoob. They'd be the "moderates."
this stuff must be seeping out over tv because my next door neighbor,
a mind-controlled watch-tv-all-day democrap,
told me the same thing:
rush limbaugh and ann coulter must be silenced.
It's semi-parody, semi-true.
I just clarified the Dems' garbled statements to get at the underlying message.
I would say it's very brilliantly written, since I barely distinguised it from what Dims actually say.
I know.
They're kidding, right?
Hey, Ohio may be the most important state in 2008. I suggest if folks can, to move there and register before the election. Maybe conservatives in New York, or California, Vermont, Maine, socialist-blue states could relocate to Ohio. A few thousand votes might make the difference.
Are there any such?
