What Lies Beneath (retread troll zotted)
FireDogLake.com ^ | 4/11/06 | Matt O.

Posted on 04/11/2006 12:58:36 AM PDT by billyakovich

Frequently readers post comments with racial slurs such as “raghead” and “mooselimbs,” racist anecdotes, castration, charges of a low intellect, wiping their rear with the Koran, calls for a new crusade, violence towards and mass murder of all Muslims, the destruction of Islam and white supremacist-esque language like “It’s time we asserted our culture” and “moral and cultural superiority.” It seems that liberals are now by definition terrorists and labeled as such. They speak of Arabs and Muslims in much the same ways that a racist southerner would speak of blacks in the 1950s.

Responsible? Not quite.

What?

Are you saying that the Quran is nothing more that the Sears Catalogue of old?

Perhaps it is YOU who are like the Sears Catalogue.

Still, I've got some sense and when people act so crazy, suicide bombers, feeding people to tigers and shredder machines, one just naturally looks down on that!

Now...now...we shouldn't be so judgmental.

Remember.... tolerance is a virtue.

There are a few on FR who do think that way, who call for a crusade against Islam as a whole, but they are very much in a minority here and very easy to challenge.

Are they really in the minority here? It does not seem that way at times. It is a shame this poster couldn't stick around as he made some good points.

I remember when you could go through these threads and read some interesting and intelligent posts. Now, it is nothing but one-line catch phrases and pictures of cats.

Much like I've done by posting this linked and footnoted article. Can we begin discussing it now or are we going to dance around the issue all night?

Raycpa's post didn't dance. It was a very good explanation as to why people generalize. It's built into our survival instincts.

Generalizations may be useful sometimes, but they're rarely correct.

I think generalizations are often correct. But they are rarely precise.

I'll have to watch the video later as it is most likely not appropriate for the office. Why don't you describe it for me. Let me guess, it is a video of extremists desecrating the Bible or the Koran? So what? This has nothing to do with the other 99.9% of Muslims.

Generalization is always healthy, practical and wise until further information about a person is obtained.

This has a corallory in electronic systems. When we analyze signals we use fast broadband circuits which provide an approximate (i.e. general) representation of a signal. When we want a more precise measurement we use a slow (i.e. narrowband) circuit.

The broadband circuits are faster, cheaper and are used in many more applications than the slower expensive narrowband circuits.

"So what? This has nothing to do with the other 99.9% of Muslims."

I thought it was "interesting and intelligent" that the media won't show Muslim extremist using a Koran as a pressure release detonator to kill hundreds of children. But you aren't really looking for "interesting and intelligent" posts.

1- I have not seen the video yet... but how do you know this is the Koran? This was a school so I am sure there were lots of other books available.

2- If this was the Koran, wouldn't that only prove that these terrorists were not true Islams? That this had more to do with violence than religion since a true Islam would not do that to the Koran? That is the whole point of this thread. The terrorists are a small fraction of extremists and do not represent a whole religion or race.

3- I don't find your focus on such a meaningless point "interesting or intelligent".

To those who insist on posting animated graphics, pictures of cute little kitty cats and nuclear bomb blasts for the 1000th time... go spend a couple of hours over at hamsterdance.com so we don't have to weed through all your crap.
