The Democratic Underground describes itself as: Democratic Underground (DU) was founded on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2001, to protest the illegitimate presidency of George W. Bush and to provide a resource for the exchange and dissemination of liberal and progressive ideas. The DU conducted a poll of its members. Over half own a firearm, and most own more than one. This is surprising since the participants on this website are some of the most left-wing partisans and outspoken critics of conservative and Republican thought. The majority of DUer posts contain profanity and most threads can be characterized as anti-US in words or tone.

Why is this important? Because several threads have recently advocated direct violent attacks against government and government representatives. Many DUers have been behind recent attacks on conservative speakers at universities.

I find that stat hard to believe.

First of all it assumes that DUers are truthful.

Second, DUers are lazy and in blue states you have to jump through a number of hoops in order to buy a firearm.

While I agree that there is a definite attitude at DU that encourages DUers who are going off the deep end.

DU is not that "prominant" on the left wing.

They are considered the bottom tier website of the left and more or less the laughingstock of liberalism.

They don't advocate liberal policies as much as they engage in left wing conspiracism.

Everything over there is a conspiracy theory and its replaced all logical thought.

Its also why some folks on the Daily Kos think of the DUmmies as losers.
