Mayor Nagin speaks out (highlights)
Times-Picayune ^ | 10 September 2005 | Gordon Russell, Staff Writer

Posted on 09/10/2005 9:00:31 PM PDT by Colonial Warrior

In a stark reminder of how drastically Hurricane Katrina has impacted the lives of New Orleanians, Mayor Ray Nagin has purchased a home for his family in Dallas and enrolled his young daughter in school there. Nagin, who spoke with The Times-Picayune by telephone from Dallas, where he has been since Wednesday, said he planned to return to New Orleans on Saturday. He said he will remain in the Crescent City while his family lives for the next six months in Dallas, making occasional visits to his family when possible. It’s not clear where Nagin will be living: His home along Bayou St. John suffered massive flooding, the mayor said, although he has not inspected it. In a brief but wide-ranging interview, the mayor reflected on the tragedies of the past two weeks, acknowledging that he may have made some mistakes but said that he hopes others in positions of authority – including President George W. Bush and Gov. Kathleen Blanco -- are scrutinized as closely as he and his staff have been. “I’m not pointing any fingers at anyone,” Nagin said. “But I was in the fire. I was down there. Where were they? I’m confident the truth is gonna come out. But I want everybody’s record analyzed just as hard as mine. “Listen, this was unprecedented. Nothing has ever happened like this. For people to sit back and say, ‘You should have done this, you should have done that’ … it’s Monday morning quarterbacking. They can shoot if they want, but I was there, and I will have the facts.”

I don't think Nagin had control of the buses. Someone else did and they denied use.

A bottleneck was there in La,,and it was Blanco.

Other Parishes outside of New Orleans declared voluntary or mandatory evacuations. I do not recall the Governor having to OK those plans. Also see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1481634/posts?page=11#11

Jive talking, obscenity spewing Mayor CYA Nagin needn't worry.
"Historian" David Brinkley is already all over television, angrily ranting "truth".
His truth includes the heroic tale of Sean Penn to the rescue.

Mr. Genius Business Executive here couldn't negotiate with the School Board or blow the whistle on them or the Governor, even AFTER he's become guilty of negligent manslaughter. Honor among thieves?

He's not just a pathetic mayor, he's a pathetic human being.

Nagin is on MTP tomorrow. Should be interesting.

I think he is beginning to realize he was set up. Personally, I think Blanco and Landrieu set him up, and also the President. Seems pretty obvious to me that the Blanco crew used the poor of New Orleans a cannon-fodder in a political war.

It does seem like every effort was made to make sure that those people in the Superdome and Convention Center remained in camera view far longer than one would have thought reasonable. Why, when buses finally arrived, suddenly gunfire broke out and the evacuation had to stop.

I am beginning to wonder who was doing the shooting...thugs or people working for Blanco?

I seem to remember having read somewhere that this POS was in Baton Rouge during the storm.....he didn't ride out the storm with his city at all . Lying liberal loser....

"Wonder what the status of the Landrieu home(s)?"

Didn't you see her last Sunday in an airplane with Stephenopolis blubbering away saying look down there. That was my families camp. It is gone. Look these were all camps along here. THEY ARE ALL GONE, BOO HOO!

CAMP! Some word for GREAT BIG MANSIONS.

Mary Landrieu's aunt is on the orleans parish school board, powerful and supposedly in charge of the use of school buses for emergency evacs.

Really? What is her name and relationship to Mary?

Mary Landrieu/Blanko both hate Nagin.

Why is that? I mean I know that Nagin bad mouthed Blanco into the ground late last week into this, but wasn't Nagin that got the black vote out at the last minute to get Landrieu elected? What was Blanco's beef with him before the flood? This is getting good!

The Landrieu's, Blanco's, Nagin's of LA have got to go! No PC BullCra*...an idiot is an idiot, color-gender-creed does not factor into being an idiot and these people have shown themselves to be incompetent every step of the way.
Nagin / Blanco / Landrieu...YOU were the ones responsible for YOUR constituency...YOU failed on every level...YOU refused assistance when offered...YOU will answer for your negligence come Judgement Day.

hmmmmmmmmmmm could it be that neat and tidy? Why Dallas? Could it be that he cut a deal with Bush? That he is gonna spill the beans and his family being in Texas is a LOT safer than LA. Could be almost like witness protection.

"Mayor Ray Nagin has purchased a home for his family in Dallas..

I recently heard before Nagin became the Major he worked for a cable company. Majors don't make much money either. Makes you wonder how could he just go and BUY a house right off?

I think I had heard the government had given New Orleans money to fix the levies, but the work didn't seem to get done.

I especially like how he accuses people in authority of hating blacks.

I think he, Jesse, Al and the MSM are royally PO'd that so many thousands of "white" people have opened their hearts and homes to these hated blacks. It has to really chap them that most people don't even notice the color of ones skin when help is needed. I hope I never run into him while he's hiding out in Dallas. I'll spit on him.

I agree.

And I think Nagin is being set up to take the fall and Miss Blanco and Miss Mary are gonna come out smelling nice and their cronies will control the money flowing in.

I do think the shooters were thugs. And I think part of Blancos big problem was having a bogus plan and no shelters. She couldn't let 100000 housing project folks be dropped off in Baton rouge or elsewhere. There would have been massive civil disorder. I don't think a single shelter was set up in Baton Rouge,,I could be wrong. I would like to know, were any shelters ready for these people. I don't think so.

I know. That was a low blow wasn't it?

I'll cross my fingers and toes that it's a temporary move. And now I will shut up. :)
