I've been participating on FR in comments only a short while now but I learn (mostly) quickly (self promotion!).
My one delay on the FR Learning Curve is whattheheck does "bttt" mean?
I see it often on threads but I don't understand:
(1.) what the acronym (please tell me it's an acronym) means; and,
(2.) what purrpose it serves to type it.
So, oh wise learned Freepers, please explain. I thankyew.
Sometimes FReepers don't have time to read a thread so they (bttt) bump it to the top because it puts it in their "ping" column so they will have it when they get back on and have time to read it. That way they don't have to search for it. Btw, welcome to FR. :o)
BIRDS, I don't think that's gonna fly.
Here is my new user faq that I occasionally post to a worthy newbie, or whenever the situation fits, whichever comes first:
New User Rules of Thumb
This is actually a quite friendly place once you realize some basic rules of thumb:
Don't post personal essays in News Activism. In fact, posting personal essays is frowned upon, especially if you don't respond to people who want to discuss it with you.
Don't post duplicate threads
Don't use this as an advertising place
Don't expect it to be a debating society, cause it's not.
Don't post and run. This gets more people marked as trolls than anything.
Don't use it as a place to do your homework.
Don't post in the wrong area.
When in doubt, use your spell checker.
Use the preview function to make sure your paragraphs are there.
Be respectful of the fact that many people who post here love guns, God, and the Constitution.
Viking kitties can be your friends.
Best way to get a feel for it is to get involved with discussions on threads and read a lot of what is being posted.
It's really not necessary to lurk for 6 months, rumour to the countrary!
Special vocabulary:
Zot - when the moderators declare a troll has posted, and the game of pile up on the thread takes place. Frequently symbolized by a lightning strike or an atomic explosion.
Viking Kitties - the ones who do the zotting for the mods! (a great game!)
BTTT - back to the top - when you want to bump a post back up, usually because you don't have the time to read it, but want it on your "My Comments" section.
Hugh - inhouse joke for huge
vey series - inhouse joke for very serious. Can be shortened to just series.
all your base are belong to us (I suggest you google that one. Great fun!)
Stuned - inhouse joke. Stunned, usually used in a humourous or sarcastic way, usually by a "beeber like device"
And finally:
DO NOT EVER POST A WHOLE MESSAGE IN ALL CAPS.
Remember, paragraphs are your friends.
Beware the spelling and grammar nazis. Good content will keep them at bay some times, but not always.
Aw right. Does anyone have bookmarked the original beeber stuning article? I am terrible at using the search because it is a frequently used phrase. Also look for the Viking Kitties when trolls show up. Stand back and avoid their wrath.
MANY THANKS! I've already been posting a while, it seems, but the welcomes are very appreciated.
To "hole_n_one" -- I haven't a clue...
To others here, thanks for participating, too.
It was a joke. I'm actually not the least lazy, just wanted additional helps about the forum itself, about to go Google afterward, FR beat me to the results.
Thanks so much!
great tag line.
BINGO!!! Someone hand that man a cigar!
Thanks so much...most I know from good internet civics and some reprimands over time from others (increases the Learning Curve), the rest as to FR-unique customs is very helpful, explains my other questions not yet asked (now not necessary to ask). Thanks, again.
Ha, yeah, I've seen the Viking Kitties and Zots on some threads, when just reading the forum prior to posting (not that the two issues are related...ha, just saying).
Hahaha, verra funny!
Lead Sometimes Makes Free Thinkers?
This is HUGH and SERIES!!!!!!!
Nah - Baynative got it in post 22 above. It's originally from an old cigarette commercial.
I heard it "Lucky Strike Means Filtered Tip."
I like your tagline...but it's making me hungry...
Mmmmmmm! Mmmmmmm! Good!
