Pet Meds Question

PetMeds.com advertises the dogs heartworm meds. for $11.00 less than what our vets office charges per dog per Rx.

I told them I might go through petmeds.com and they said that they cannot vouch where the meds came from even though the packaging looks legit.

What are your thoughts on this? Woud you order from petmeds.com or order from the vet?

Funny thing, wife's antibiotics cost $150, the exact same medicine for the dog was $15.

1. In all probability, your dog weighs much less than your wife.

2. Your dog can't sue the manufacturer into bankruptcy.

I found myself in the opposite circumstances a few years ago, but luckily my wife ran away from home.

We've been buying our flea and tick and heartworm medicine from Petmeds for a couple of years now. It comes with expiration dates. The vet just marks it up. One of the workers in our vet's office was the one who told us about Petmeds in the first place.

When my Beloved Rottweiler was still alive, I ordered ALL of her flea and heart worm meds online.

They were fine - the vet is just trying to protect his med racket.

I buy Revolution from PedShed.com out of Australia.

It's much less expensive and no Rx is required, and there's only about a one-week turnaround period.

Of course, if you have more than one dog to buy for, that's a different story. It's so hard to find a good vet that you trust. I buy my contact lenses online.

My Vet wouldn't give me a prescription so I could use PetMeds but being that he's the best Vet I know I continue to use him.

Our vet will honor the same price quoted by Pet Med as long as I bring him a copy of the stated price from Pet Med's web site.

Therefore, that tells me there is little or no difference
between US and Canadian pet medications.

I've lost a lot of respect for vets over the last 10 years.

I have, too. Coincidentally, or maybe not, about 10 years ago I moved from an area where most of a vet's practice was geared to large animals to an area where a vet's practice is almost exclusively small animals (pets). One of my neighbors has spent probably $15-20,000 on his dog. Every time the dog goes in for a surgery, they (the dog & his owner) come out in worse shape. Meanwhile, the vet has built himself a fancy new office.

Vets are getting TICKed off because they are not able to charge the high prices that they were when the monthly flea/tick products came out. I don't think there has been a single incident of counterfit flea drops. The vets just made it up to scare people.

Same here.

Two of my four dogs were attacked by alligators and my smallest (while nursing) was attacked by a coyote. All made a complete recovery. To see my doggies, click on my name.

Great dogs! I have australian shepherd, 3 x basset hounds (and 13 newborn puppies), and an English setter/ blue heeler/ goodness knows what else, mix. I love my animals. : )

I moved to a small town in the last year with only one veterinary clinic.

Because it was convenient, I took my 80 pound Lab mix and 8 pound Jack Russell there for their checkups.

They received their annual vaccinations including Lyme disease prevention, heartworm tests and pills and Frontline plus flea protection (for 4 months).

When I got the bill, in the amount of $498.00, I was blown away!

I paid around $250.00 for the same services (minus the Frontline) in Minneapolis last year.

Next year, I'm making the 45 minute trip to visit my old clinic.

I'm curious about what others pay for their pet's annual exam and meds.

I read a science report about three years ago about the annual shots that dogs are recommended to get. The reports was very critical of the vet and supplies industry...it said we are over medicating our pets and in most cases harming them. It said the yearly shots should not be given but once every three years, not yearly.
I confronted my ex-vet and he just said he was following the law and that he hadn't read the report but tended to agree with it. I asked him why he wasn't campaigning to change the law if he suspected we were harming our animals...he just shrugged his shoulders. That's the last time I saw him.

My dogs get Heartgard monthly and Program (fleas) monthly. They get to the vet every three years for shots and check-ups.

Lucky dogs. And fine looking ones, too. Besides our Westie, we have a new puppy in the house...a 5 1/2 month old Sheltie. Just got him on Saturday and he's a stitch. It's fun having a youngster around the house again. Had to have our almost 15 YO Sheltie put down last month and having the new pup has cheered up the entire family. Or almost. The Westie went into a pout but she seems to have started coming around a little today.
