Hello there!
I am new to this forum. I am from Germany and I am interested in politics. I want to learn more from the US especially besides our papers and TV.
So as a start-up my question is: What do you think about WWII? Was everything such simple. Have there been certain interests of the Allies? What was the role of the UK? Was Germany the biggest danger or was it Russia?
Many question, I know. :) But more interesting for me: What is your point of view regarding Germany today? How do you consider the current politics of Germany?
And...of course, I would appreciate questions from your side.
Best regards from Germany GF
If this is so clearly to you, you won´t have any problems to quote the relevant parts out of my posts here, have you? Where is it clearly that I want to paint the US?
Or don´t you trust anyone except proofed republicans? Don´t you think that other points of view might help you fixing your points of view or even become better in evaluating things? Ok, that´s just my opinion. I am just a guest here. If I am not welcome just say it. If it is the opinion of the majority here then I will leave. Otherwise just stay out of my thread if you do not thrust me.
That is all. Returning to lurking mode now.
If your first reaction to the Santayana quote is to think of Vietnam, then I don't trust you. Why? Because only anti-American socialists think that way.
Judging from post 13 he is no leftist by his own country's standards. BUT he is definitely a leftist by our standards. It is quite common for non-US Western "centre-right" people - they accept a large part of conventional narratives that inside the US were confined to the US LEft. A true leftie from these countries won't come here thinking we are stupid intellectuals.
Not that I'm sympathetic to his positions though - I think he is misguided and spending a few months on FR will probably point him to the truth. (Bay, do I sound cultic here? ;-))
I'll grant that realizing the import of the Islamic problem puts him a step ahead of most of his countrymen. My post #2 still applies - Muslims are the 21st century version of the Nazis: utterly convinced of their own superiority and equally convinced of their right to treat others as less than human.
There is no question to that - I agree.
"Of course this is a very simple view and I bet the first time a German tastes the flavour of a bomb placed by a religious fanatic or so he will be radically change his mind regarding home/country protection."
I sure hope so. Do you still live in Germany?
I think Germany needs to remember her Christian roots and step away from socialism. It is bankrupting your country!
As for your statement:
we import the Islam to all European contries at the moment. This is going to be TNT withtin the next ten years.
THIS is what you need to concentrate on today. In my opinion, we ALL need to pay attention to this. The jihad is real and there are those out there (those who will kill us just because we are not like them and do not worship thier god, "allah".) who are slowly crawling into every nation they can manage to with the intention of eventually taking these nations over.
Pay attention to this and do your best to stop it in its' tracks. Immigration is fine and dandy so long as it's legal and so long as those who emigrate assimilate to the culture of the nation they move to.
Best of luck in your search for knowledge. : )
"Theres room for all points of view here, however a thick skin is a pre-requisite. New guys with chips on their shoulders are encouraged to leave them at the door, otherwise there will be no end to the grief you will receive. Its a good idea to tread lightly for awhile. Always prudent to build up a bit of a posting history before coming on too strong or you'll be handed your head.
That is all. Returning to lurking mode now."
OK, I will try to take that into consideration. Please can you explain what "chips on their shoulder" does mean?
Can you please define the main points of an US lefty and an US right-wing for me?

There are many people here who have the same thinking about that. More than you think. But due to our political correctness only a few dared to speak loudly about it. Perhaps this is due to our history, too. So the problem becomes bigger and bigger. Meanwhile there are whole parts of Berlin with Turkish and Arabic people only. Often they are not able to speak one sentence in German despite of living here for years! They do not want to integrate.
Yes, I do. I live in Cologne. And I have already thought about emigration.
I agree on that. I am liberal enough to welcome people from other cultures. But a coutry has to select them. At least there is a need for being able to speak German. Next step would be to take only those who found a job in Germany. Unfortunality the pure opposite is reality.
I supect our current gouvernment being some kind of socialists or even communists. Many of them have chapters in their history which confirms that. Even if you have a look on Joschka Fischer, our foreign minister.
We will have votes in 2006. We will see what happens.
Thank you for your statement. I agree. There are no excuses but there is a demand to see the whole thing. Stalin was another part of it, right. And I believe if Hitler would not have fightet against the east Stalin would have had a walk through Europe down to Spain. Both sides where bad.
In my country,(the grand ole USA!!) almost EVERYONE is an immigrant or decends from immigrants. It is how this nation was born.
It is the liberals (here, at least) who seem to cry for open borders with no regulation whatsoever. To anyone who stands for upholding and enforcing the immigration laws they cry "racism" and "ati-immigration" which is simply not the case.
From what you say, it seems to me that you are more conservative than you think. At least by the standards I know to be true.
The German government tends to be socialistic with the numerous government programs and monetary handouts. I know that the Netherlands is similar this way as well.
I will be honest and let you know that I do not know very much about how the German government is run (something for me to do some research on!) but what I know is from my sister living there and from what she tells me.
She has had two children while living in BErlin. For each child she was given money! Just for having a baby!! While it's nice for her and her husband, there is NO reason for it. It is a strain on the economy and unfair to those who do not have children. Why should a childless couple/person have to shell out their tax money to hand over to a brood mare? Throw in the fact that the immigrants from Turkey and other places tend to have many more children and there's a problem.
Some assistance is OK but only to a point. Socialist governments tend to be "nanny" states and take the incentive out of working hard and paying ones own way. Eventually people forget how to take care of themselves and a sense of entitlement grows.
I hope you find some way to free your country from its latest incarnation of totalitarianism, the one that makes it illegal for you to speak the truth as you see it. It's only a matter of time, of course, before the Muslims push you hard enough to provoke the inevitable backlash against their barbarism... until then, Germany will have little to contribute to the wider world.
Do you think the Christian Democrats are much different from the Social Democrats in Germany? How much of a difference would it make if the Christian Democrats won the elections?
The Social Democrats are much like the Democrats here in the US and the Christian Democrats are like the Republicans here!
In the past the Christian Democrats have achieved much the same ,as the Republicans here!I don't know how it is now, because I've lived in the US to long, to know who is who over there any more!
