I know there have been a million and one posts on this but it is just SO frustrating to see so much needless ignorance at best and just plain evil at worst.

I couldn't agree more. I am so sick of hearing the lies of the media, and even seeing Freepers spouting off about her being "brain dead" when they obviously have not a clue about the truth.

This has been a very frustrating day, and hearing that evil b@stard Felos this afternoon, really put me over the top.

Thanks for posting this.

It seems strange to me that before killing someone on death row, they are entitled to endless appeals. But to kill Terri, all they need is for her ex-husband to say, "yeah she wants to die, yeah that's the ticket."

Hey, calm down. 99% of us are on Terri's side and KNOW she's not vegetative.

I just shouted at some woman talking on Fox about Terri being in a coma for the past 15 years!! She was corrected that she was not in a coma, then she says, okay persistant vegetative state.........GRRRRRRRRR. If these people don'e know anything about the case, they need to stay off TV.

I would be satisfied if I could get regular factual updates as to what is being done with regards to Congressional and National Guard action.

I have heard it on the news numerous times as well. While at work today, I was lurking here, and someone posted, "would you want to subject your family to years of seeing you like that". (paraphrasing).

All I can say to that is, I know how I wanted to hold on to my daddy, who was dying of cancer about this time last year. The only thing that allowed me to let go was know that he was in pain. Terri is not in pain. I would give anything to have my dad back, for the rest of my life, if he were in the condition Terri is in, where there's still hope! Same goes for the rest of my immediate family members, if they were in that situation.

This is a travesty, and my wish is for Terri's (former, as far as I'm concerned) husband Michael is to spend his final days starving to death, so he can see how "painless" it is.

You are right. Here is one more video of Terri and her father that the MSM apparently can't be troubled to air. I did hear Sean Hannity say that he has and will be airing some of them so FOX news channel can take credit for that. Play it in Congress and then let's hear those Dem Senators call her vegetative and say she won't even feel it when she starves to death. Those people are the real "Little Eichmanns" in America. Who's next? Who's not worth a cup of gruel a day?

But where is Governor Bush, all of sudden? the presumptive Pres. candidate in the minds of many 'freepers'. Could he pardon her? Could he simply intervene on behalf of the presumption of life, with his own state troopers? Will he simply sit down to a nice dinner with wine, or some 'quiet time' at home, contemplating, cogitating, as Terri suffers because the 'system' is now - right now - denying her food and water, even though the nurses insist her condition is improving, even though everyone well knows she is not some comatose 'mental vegetable'.

100% in agreement!

This is MURDER. She is a living human being tortured to death. hey LIBS! So upset about Abu Grabib? this is what actual torture really is!!! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? Too busy making sure Guatanomo detainees are entitled to cable TV? Trying to sneak tax hikes into legislation meant to prevent her starvation?

Damn it. I am not one to advocate taking law into own hands on a daily basis but right now I'd defend anyone able to block down that door and hook that tube back up.

Nixon was distracted the same way when abortion happened.

Surprise in the USA. It's now legal to kill your spouse and get away with it. No messy OJ trial. Just kill her half way and let a judge do the rest with starvation.

Old people: you're next. We won't have a social security problem by the time our seniors are judiciously wacked.

Anybody can be killer or killed.

Isn't life and death exciting?

Don't lose your religion over this one...just be careful who you marry. Have that will ready.

If Congress allows Greer and loving husband to pee all over their subpoena, they will reap the whirlwind.

Subpeonas so vital to getting themselves on tv won't be worth the paper they're written on. Everyone will flip them off in the future - the baseball players should have anyway.

This question is humbly submitted by a physician. Providing nutrition through a gastrostomy tube is not really a skilled medical service. You simply open a can (5 or 6 times a day) of an eneteral nutrional supplement and pour it into the gastrostomy tube and add suppplemental water to maintain proper hydration. This can be done at home and was being for Terri at her facility. It is not rocket science. WHY CANNOT TERRI'S PARENTS PROVIDE THIS SERVICE OR ARRANGE FOR THE FACILITY'S STAFF TO CONTINUE THIS SERVICE? A greater challenge is to protect the skin from pressure ulcers, position the patient to avoid aspiraton, maintain joint range of motion, and tend to the patient's comfort and dignity.
It is not unusual for patients to not have an advanced directive and for family members to disagree as to what the patient would have desired. Under such circumstances it seems difficult to select an irreversible pathway that leads to demise when adament family members (especially parents) are ready, willing, and presumably able to support a person with quite simple measures. Am I missing something in this discussion?

Today in this country there are many brain damaged individuals of various degrees.
Some suffered anoxia at birth. Some from auto accidents.

Since Teri is able to breathe is indicative that she has positive brain waves. Also her heart beats without any assistance. This again is a clear indication that her brain (the SA node)is able to send the electrical impulse to her right atrium causing the heart muscle to contract.

A vegetative state means one is brain dead.

Teri is not brain dead!

You think an argument is more persuasive if you post it 50 times with more exclamation points?

Thanks for posting! Some comments I have seen on here I cannot believe. This is a sad day in American history when a scumbag husband living with a woman who has his two kids has control over his wife's life and then has the audacity to say he wants to put this behind him.

Hope the husband rots in hell!

I pray something can be done to save her. But I fear the worst since the Democrats, MSM, and these rotten liberal judges rule America. If it comes to pass that Terri dies, it will be the end of the Democrat Party, and the hit the MSM takes will bring them down. This assho@@ husband of her will never leave in peace. AND more important, lots of judges will regret using their liberal crap.

From the National Institutes of Health: (emphases added)

What is Coma and Persistent Vegetative State?

A coma is a profound or deep state of unconsciousness. An individual in a state of coma is alive but unable to move or respond to his or her environment. Coma may occur as a complication of an underlying illness, or as a result of injuries, such as head trauma. A persistent vegetative state (commonly, but incorrectly, referred to as "brain-death") sometimes follows a coma. Individuals in such a state have lost their thinking abilities and awareness of their surroundings, but retain non-cognitive function and normal sleep patterns. Even though those in a persistent vegetative state lose their higher brain functions, other key functions such as breathing and circulation remain relatively intact. Spontaneous movements may occur, and the eyes may open in response to external stimuli. They may even occasionally grimace, cry, or laugh. Although individuals in a persistent vegetative state may appear somewhat normal, they do not speak and they are unable to respond to commands.

The small video clips are a biased sample. If a laugh happened to occur during a joke, it was considered a response...but what about the hours of time when no responses--or totally inappropriate responses--were given? Those parts weren't shown.

Many people see what they want...some even see faces in the clouds or on the moon, but that doesn't mean they are there. What's most important is that the person closest to this woman--not just physically or emotionally, but also legally--has testified that she wouldn't want to be kept this way. We shouldn't judge her preferences based on what we would want. Who here has any right to interfere in that marriage and say he would know better than her husband what she would have wanted?

And finally...it seems that it's the anti-Schiavo/pro-Schindler crowd that is ignorant of what PVS looks like.
