"This... [is] a country where the will of the majority is the law, and ought to be the law." --Thomas Jefferson: Answers to de Meusnier Questions, 1786. ME 17:85
I came across some quotes of Thomas Jefferson. The above makes me wonder how he would feel about Liberals of today trying to make the majority accept what the Minority want. For more quotes of Jefferson's visit http://www.theconservativerepublican.com/ThomasJefferson.html
Thomas Jefferson is DEAD. He was from a different time entirely.
Gay Marriage: God will deal with such issues in His own good time, whether He views them as perversions or not, but don't ask that the state be forced to bless such a union.
Abortion: To assume that a human life is not a "person" in the legal sense is to take upon oneself the power of God. Such sin will not be lightly forgiven. We have made that particular mistake in this nation once before and we should never defend it.
Illegal Aliens: Ask the Iroquois that question, sir, and I believe you will have my answer. We survived the trials of this continent. That is all the proof needed of our right to be here, or their's. If it were easy, legal, however, it would not be a worthy question. Those who have braved the trials to arrive here and then dared to succeed, those are the citizens I want for this young nation. Those who get here by chance, whether by gaming the system or by birth, and then expect to be taken care of, I have only contempt.
All the Framers are dead too so by your logic is the Constitution Dead?
What did Thomas Jefferson think of slavery? What did Thomas Jefferson think of a lot of things that would not apply to today's living. The question wasn't about the Constitution. It was about lifestyles and what TJ would think about them. I respect the man but I honestly don't go to the Founding Fathers for moral advice, esp. one that cut and paste his own bible.
that's pretty good
very true!
That's not me at all.
:sigh: Have a nice thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well. I hope yours lasts longer than mine; I'll be back at work shortly...
You have to work???? Wow well I hope you get to enjoy dinner.
Im assuming that since all the Framers of the Constitution are dead that we should no longer talk about the Constitution since it wsa the views of dead people from long ago?
This doesnt sound very conservative to me....Maybe we have some liberals here desguised as conservative?
*WAS*
So when someone disagrees with you, you resort to calling people liberal? I'm not a liberal. However, I was under the impression that you were inquiring about someone's personal opinion that is dead, not what the constitution says. Excuse me for posting. I'll remember not to next time.
Didnt call you liberal, and I dont do that just because someone disagrees with me.
But YOU said you dont allow the framers moral belief's dictate your life.
So, how then can you say You are truly conservative in wanting the Constitution to remain what it is now? Or do you?
To change the constitution one would have to be atleast a little liberal would they not?
Your first reply was that Jefferson is dead--so I posed a second question to you about the Constitution...
