U.S. Navy Swift boats have been much in the news of late, owing to John Kerry's service on board one of these boats in Vietnam.
We have to admit not being previously familiar with the craft. A check of the Web sites reveals that the boats were designed for a top speed of 32 knots; at that speed, the boats could come to a complete stop moving just 112 feet in 9 seconds. When cruising at 20 knots, the boats had a turning radius of only 75 yards.
Being able to run at full speed, stop on a dime and totally reverse positions: What better metaphor could there be for Kerry's political career?
I thought it pretty clever and funny.
FWIW-
